Bump. Just for the link below; just 'cause it's so good. Michael Lang has now announced that there's "definite" planning on a 50-year anniversary "event". (See article in the "Poughkeepsie Journal", if interested, altho there's really not much detail there.) So...……...just was browsing Woodstock references from the past on this board, and came across this concert footage of Johnny Winter from that epic event. What's stunning (besides Johnny's skill, of course), is how utterly mesmerizing and fantastic the cinematography is. 50 years ago. Just mind-blowingly good. Just like the whole movie and the added stuff from later editions. And this performance didn't make the original movie cut!! It came out only in the 2009 40th anniversary edition of both movie and DVD. This was first posted by locacaliente in Aug. 2014 in the "And then sometimes 70 is still the same old 70...." thread. Suggested to play video in full-screen mode.

Man, been a LONG time since I heard that. Big staple of FM radio back in the day. Some of it sounds dated, but still a good reach back into the stacks.

Michael Lang has now announced that indeed there will be a Woodstock 2019, with 40 artists already signed. BTW, Johnny's wizardry above was performed using a Fender XII, but he only had it strung with 6 strings. It's hard to tell, but if you look closely up at the top, it's true.

As delicious as Carlos's playing is on that Woodstock clip, Greg's B-3 work is just almost magical the way it sets the framework.

Sometimes Mick Taylor isn't given enough credit.... The last 3 minutes of this he just lays into a really nice groove with his sweet touch, along with the great Nicky Hopkins riding along to the finish. If you don't want to spend 6 minutes, at least listen to the last 3:30. But highly recommended to listen to the last 3 minutes at least 3 or 4 times. Derek Trucks has this kind of touch, as does his bud Slowhand - but maybe moreso Trucks. Can't you easily imagine Trucks and Chuck Leavell doing this? Not that he would be better than Nicky if he were still with us.

I'm guessing probably most of you know by now that we lost Dick Dale over the weekend, at age 81. He's been brought up in at least 3 different threads on this board - but maybe not this one(?) - but it just seemed to fit here the best, since we've used this thread for various RIPs. (And his most certainly qualifies as "old music".) By the way, one of the threads he was in: "amazing awesome music vid/w incredible shredding", from 2010, started out with a video posted by "Dr. Xeena", but that video link "is no longer available". However..........I'm pretty sure I've found it on gootube, and am gonna update that thread with that newer, valid link, I think.

So, clearly we are becoming the generation that mainstream media is ignoring because I'm guessing the focus of the media was on the (untimely) passing of Jason Priestly. But, since Beverly Hills 90210 was never my cup of tea, whereas 60's surf music was, it would have been nice to see a more balance representation in the news.

I agree - it's a pretty good song, with controversial lyrics. Segments of it remind me a tiny bit of "Go Your Own Way", especially up front; but that's probably just Mick's rhythm. Intriguingly.......I had never before noticed how much Lindsey (an absolute musical genius) sounds like Rodney Crowell in some parts - of just this song. He certainly doesn't in general, but if I didn't know this song, and heard the first 30 seconds.....I'd peg that to be Rodney. Also in the quieter middle section. Curious that.

Is this a known thing on this board? I just stumbled upon it looking for something *completely* different last night. I don't think I've seen it posted here before; (very minor) apologies if it has been. It's from 31 years ago, or nearly, and was apparently posted on gootube 5 years ago. Nice, tasteful, sweet stuff, especially from both the Vaughan brothers, but Cesar Rosas and Carlos get in some worthy licks, too. I *think* that's Greg Rolie in the background, but can't say for sure. Very highly likely as it sounds like him to my ears. Woulda been nice to have an additional camera angle, but this might be from a bootleg DVD; not sure. Worth multiple listens, imo.

Deep Blues alert........... Totally by accident last night, on PBS, I stumbled up this thing. I was gonna suggest you all look for it, or do that Video-on-demand thing if'n you have that capability. But I've found it online, and it's viewable this way. I normally hate to watch "shows" on a computer screen, but this one is interesting enough to make it very much worthwhile. Mostly about Skip James and Son House, but others involved, too. Short segments showing the Dickinsons and North Mississippi All-Stars, Lucinda, Buddy Guy, Bukka White, Mississippi Fred, John Fahey, and others - but the story is the star of this (not counting the obvious blues theme revolving around James and House). Highly recommended. Worth every one of the 56 minutes - if one likes old, authentic country blues, that is. I just re-watched the entire thing. [Side note: unfortunately, so many of the previous links of this thread no longer work. I would hope someone would 'investigate' this and 'fix' things.]

This one truly makes me sad. All must pass, but (to coin a phrase), God must be a boogie man. Ellis Marsalis has passed after contracting the corona virus. Father and mentor to Wynton and Branford, he was a musical force in his own right. Even at an advanced age, he was still playing and not wanting to retire. I had the incredible privilege to see him live, opening for Marcus Roberts about 25 years ago. Thank you for your gifts, Ellis.
