Subject: Nasty Pop-up on browser

I am, apparently, one of many who have been bitten by this bug. In my instance, a blue scree comes up with lots of text, and a couple overlaid screens on top of it. A bell rings continuously, and a female voice stridently repeats the message that the computer has been infected, and you must call the toll-free n umber. Every attempt to close the page, and the browser, is defeated by the malware. The only solution is "ALT/CTRL/DEL" and then using the task manager to kill the browser. (And don't answer yes when reconnecting to the browser's offer to restore your previous session, because it will come back!) There is a lot on the Net about it, but much of it references using removal tools that may in fact be malware. One, for example, is apparently a copy of a valid removal tool. This is said to be a modern rendition of the random phone calls "from Microsoft" saying your computer is infected. Calling the number will result in you having to both fork over money and grant access to your computer for remote control by them, meaning more viruses will be installed, as well as possible ransomware and exposure to risk of your personal and financial info. Working through the possible fixes is tedious, trying to differentiate the real from the fake. If you have it, sorry and good luck. Here's something on it: (When mine pops up again, I will try and get a screenshot)

Here's a new example, less annoying but still impossible to close out, except with Task Manager, which kills the whole browser. Still looking for a RELIABLE means of getting rid of it!

Ooops. Almost as annoying. With the sound turned up, you still get the endless beeping about 2 or 3 or more per second. Just not that intrusive, repetitive female voice. Zone Alarm Extreme Security is no help, although their tech sent me to a copy of Malvarebytes. It hasn't done the job.

Viruses from questionable websites are to be enjoyed, not feared. They are notches on the belt, names in your little black book -- reminders of happy times and the people who shared them.

I have Malwarebytes Premium (Trial version for two weeks.) It has neither detected, stopped, or cleaned the issue. After my first scan yesterday, when it claimed to catch and quarantine three issues, the problem resurfaced today. A new scan just now detected nothing, but obviously it resides somewhere. It sure doesn't show up in Control Panel/Programs! Looking through the Processes on my computer now...

I am pretty careful. Never porn sites, which are the most contaminated. But Facebook videos are real risks, and I click on one or two now and then. Also, links purporting to go to news stories can be a problem. Also, I saw how malware can intervene with redirects into advertising programs. Here's one. Check out the flow chart. It's a real eye-opener.

Snowy, a quick comment about fb video clips...I have found that those clips that start like: "10 most beautiful places not included in the 7 wonders of the world"...not a real clip, but similar to ones out there...anyhoo...when you click onto those clips (which I have learned to not do) it immediately takes you to something totally unrelated. And all of these are from friends who swear that they did not post those links. So, beware of the Trojan Horse. Unless it's a clip that was personally made from a close friend or family (like those cute kitty videos from cats that you know) don't ever click those clips. Btw, that was not really a quick comment...was it?

There are apparently some rogue copy-cat sites out there, just waiting for the untidy typist. Whenever I type in Frecell.net, Malwarebytes blocks it. (Misspelled Freecell.) (What I often do is to type the first 2 or 3 address letters, like "Fre" and let Chrome's auto-fill complete the site address.) But of late, it goes with Frecell instead of Freecell. Malwarebytes definitely does not like "Frecell.net!

I see that this pretty much occurs when a rogue site is set up on an address close to, but not the same as a popular site. (Typed Frecell.net instead of Freecell.net) This was the screen I annoying and impossible to get out of screen I originally commented on.

The tab always starts with sk something. I hate it. And control/alt/delete is the only way I've been able to stop it, once it loads. If you x it out immediately when it shows up, you're good.

since pop-ups are generated on to the browser due to plug-ins and extensions which many of us are not aware of. Better clean all such extensions by resetting browsers.

Are you annoyed because of constant generation of pop-up ads on your screen suggesting you to call on the contact support number i.e., 1-844-423-2466 stating the reason that your PC has been infected with certain sort of infections. If your response is affirmative, well then it is a symptom indicating that your PC has been actually compromised by an adware infection which you should immediately get rid of since it can ruin your entire PC. You can do this either by removing extension from your browser or by resetting your browser. To know how to implement these instructions.
