I live far away in the north of Finland, 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle, Here you have Polar night 27.11 - 17.1, which means that the sun does not rise at all. Then weather is cold and dark. I was born in December, which is the darkest time. When I turned 10 years , a long time ago, my father asked me to snowmobile ride. The story begins. 10 years ago it was cold and dark and your mother felt that it was time to give birth. Here is no hospitals and the nearest health center was open on the Norwegian side of the 3-hour ride away. I took your mother on a sled after snowmobile and headed toward the health status. It was a late night. After driving a couple of hours your mother knew that it would take no more and it would be time to give birth. I stopped in the middle of the river Teno, which is a border river in Finland and Norway We were now in the same place. In this place you were born. I helped you into the world, I have helped many reindeer in childbirth, but you were not a reindeer, The only light was a snowmobile and stars in the sky and a small flashlight. I got you out, wrapped clothes, squeezed against my chest and I said: I will give you name : Sampo Aslak. And then I put you in your mother's lap and drove as fast as I reached the end of the trip, and we all three were saved and you got in warm . Then we continued our journey towards home, and my father drove to a small hill near our home. Dad said : look ahead, look back, look left, look right. everything you see has been part of the pre-fathers, and one day, these are yours. forests, lakes, rivers. Then he put his hand into his pocket and took out a knife and said, With this knife I cut the umbilical cord at the time 10 years ago, it has not been used since then, and now it is up to you. that knife is my best gift ever, the gift of life. Then I started to cry , I cried, because I realized when these countries are mine I no longer have a father. sisususi

What a beautiful story! Billions of people who are born on this planet, but your birth was a great adventure in a desolate land. Your father was a brave father, loving his family as he helped you to come into this world. In Ohio, certainly in the Cleveland area, there is a hospital on every corner, and a school on every other. My first husband ran a steel mill and decided our family should see more than urban life. So the Canadian wilderness was our destination.. We rented a Ute motor home, packed it full of kids, food and drove from a little town a 10 minute drive south of Cleveland heading to Michigan. My brother has a small cabin he hand built in Mannistee , Michigan . WE visited him, his three young children, complete will runny noses. Our family continued our journey north through Sous St. Marie and beyond for 500 miles to "bush " country. We set up camp. and started a fire to cook a meal for our four children. We took folding chairs and placed them around the the fire pit. Our oldest , seven, helped prepare the hamburgers for our makeshift grill. Number three child, "Busy" fidgeted in her chair, until I heard a scream! HER folding chair had propelled her into the pit. Papa pulled her out. Her screaming was unbearable. WE took a hose to pour water over her belly. I ran to get Paragoric to give her to allay her pain. She needed more care than we could give her.... This, before iPhones. The Motor home was too big and too complicated to quickly to get her the help we required . Papa and the other children stayed with the motor home. I wrapped "Busy" in a blanket with ice across her stomach. And I carried her back to the two lane highway. I needed to flag down some one to take our burned little girl to the nearest hospital, or doctor. We hitched a ride with a lady .whose car door was taped on to the passenger side. Then a good samaritan drove us to a small building used for emergencies, with an 'aid' helping the local patients. I was crazy with fear for my daughter. I begged for sterile gauze and pain killers. We ended up in a constable's car traveling ninety mph to a hospital back at Sou St. Marie(sic) where she was treated. We were grateful for the heroes who saved and served our little girl from our northern neighbor. But I am grateful we lived in hospital crazed Ohio.

Sisu This is a great story. I hope you saw the note from Denny about Sunday. You will need to calculate the time but I'm sure it will be the middle on the night for you.
