... is old, because it never changes update to update. But, I can tell you I had a 7 on 5x7 and I lost sometime yesterday I think, and since then I painstakingly ran up 7 more, back to 7. And if I don't win another, it will look a lot like I didn't play 5x7. These two are indistinguishable to my software. The only possible data I could consult would be each player's last 100 games, but for heavy playing this would roll off too quickly.

Not at all, thanks for the alert. If Denny can't or won't fix it, then it is rather a spot for me. I'm thinking the task of trying to determine whether each individual player has actually played in streak a particular variant in the last 14 days is rather a nightmarish requirement on my software. *gulp*

Ok. I think the lesser requirement, the one you probably had in mind in the first place, would suffice and be acceptable to folks: I currently have 4 updates per two week period. Therefore, new condition, if any variant total for any player stays the same for 5 consecutive updates, it shall be treated as a zero. This condition is termed "not being r-current." As I said above, this is not foolproof, for somebody can run up the same sized streak he had after he loses it, and then not get credit for it. So people will now need to be aware of this stupid rule and 'streak around' it. Also people in this situation won't be able to tell from the current streaks tables when they have to play to keep r-current. Also if I have another crash, the 4 updates might not be 14 days apart. Also I'll have to mark the column (I guess with an 'r') to let them know this happened. So discuss. Use another thread, probably a good idea. And if somebody shoots it down maybe they'll think of something better. I will make no changes for the present but plan on implementing the r-current rule sometime soon.

d164280 and joegray, I didn't play 6x6 in streak mode but in tournament mode. If you win a 5x7 or 6x6 or any other variant in a tourney, your stats are updated. I check my stats and I skip those variants. Usually when my streak is about 13 days old, I play that variant in a tourney if I don't want to play it in streak mode.

If the person wins the game in tournament mode I don't have a problem, but if they lose I assume their streak is not affected, only the date of last play. Seems like as issue for Denny. Good observation d

What GGG says. If you play it in a tournament, and you lose, but your streak is not sent back to zero, then that's not what we're measuring here. Further, if you play it and win, but your steak is not increased, again not what we're measuring - I go beyond GGG here. This metric is for streak play. Nothing that happens in a tournament should be having any effect on it. That is true in general w/r the current, daily, and all-time streak pages: this is Denny's error. I do suppose I'd be much less inclined to take any action if only the second one above is true: if you are saying you've won every 5x7 or 6x6 you've played in a tournament since you stopped playing those in streak. After all, you are only hurting your own scoring if that were true. Accordingly, I will test it myself: I will go lose a tournament game and see if my streak disappears. If it does not, ( but my time gets reset, as d says it does) then this needs fixing, either with my no-same-streak-forever fix described above or something better if anybody's got one. Of course I hope Denny fixes it instead, cause like I say it's a bummer for you not to be able to rely on the last-play column to tell you when you're about to age off. But he might not.

I'm only saying if I play in a tournament my time gets reset (as d says). I am aware of this for a while and stopped playing some hard variants (with the fear of losing them) and concentrated on some easier ones. If you change it then I can play them again if they are about to age off. No problem.

The time is reset whenever you win in that variant. This can happen in streak mode, tournament mode, or custom mode. If you fall off the current list and then win in either tournament or custom mode your idle time goes back to 0, but you do not get back onto the current list.

In the interest of fair play, I'd have to side with joeygray's comments above - that streak play and tournament play should not interact in the (fresh time) statistics but the world we live in is Denny's world and they do. Everyone who plays tournaments regularly likely knows this but I can see where players who rarely or never play tournaments would not know this and be peeved. I do not think it is reasonable to expect joeygray to somehow correct this as I think it would make automation of his twice weekly updates of this list 100 times more complicated than it is. So, until Denny makes a change (or not) , everyone who is trying to compete in these should now know how Denny's aging works and can choose to exploit it willingly, unwillingly, or not at all. From my viewpoint, I have a hunch that Denny likes the tournaments and wishes more players gave them a shot so perhaps this is a prod for some to dip their toes into the tournament waters. FWIW, I haven't adjusted the tournaments I play in to keep some of my 12-sum streaks active but on the other hand, I'm sure their have been times that my tournament play has done this. I can feel a teeny tiny bit bad about this but not going to apologize. It's a level playing field.
