Wow - very impressive! I thought it *might* be solvable, but definitely beyond my ability within the allotted time. :-)

Hey roo, I had thought the same thing too so it's good to know the instincts on picking out winnable games is still in focus. After my first pass through the games, I liked the 6x5 and that 8x2. Unfortunately (imo) WRAC liked that 6x5 and the 6x4. For some reason, the 6x4 struck me as a deal that was always going to come up one freecell short.

On the subject of coming up one freecell short, I believe I mastered this outcome while playing 7x3 19164-5, which you may recall gave you the Masters win on 6/4. (I still need to revisit that game, but it's a daunting proposition.) Belated congrats on solving it, by the way - terrific work! The 6x4 didn't give me all that much trouble (relatively speaking, of course), but here's one that there are *many* ways to lose by coming up one freecell short, but at least one way to actually win. Only recommended if you feel like beating your head against a wall.

Unfortunately Dr B I'm not fast enough to have the luxury of a "first pass", except in the freakout where there are only 16 games and I make notes! I don't make notes in the masters. Anyway I'd already done my dash by spending too long at the bottom 6x5s and when I got to the 8x2 I stayed with it until the bell. When I won it the stats were 1/76, and they are now 3/79 so someone got it in one! 48 of those game are mine, a kind of 48 crash! It's these sort of games which make freecell so enjoyable. If I get a spare hour I'll try WRAC's 7x3.

Got the 7x3 first go after being forewarned. Didn't think it was all that tough, but certainly fiddly. Good job on this week's masters WRAC. The quartets 8x2 comes so close to being solved with two kings in the freecells - just needed to interchange the 5D with 5H.

Several more 8x2's figured prominently in today's Masters starting with game #3: 8x2 9882-7 with just 4 total wins. I think solving it early on the first try helped me out a lot while it looks like ValpoJim blitzed the Quartets sequence.

Perhaps Masters should have level 5 games in 8x2, 7x3 etc. What if it was not 8x2 9882 7 but 8x2 19256 5? Would the venerated Doctor won the Masters with 35 games or come second to ValpoJim? Interesting.

Well done Kaos. I finally mastered that 9x0. I'm interested to see if Mastermind can make something of game #1.

Thanks roo. It wouldn't surprise me if both the remaining games were winnable. I had played the 9x0 twice the first excursion through the deals since I just knew it was "winnable" but just in case I left it to the end to double back to. I thought there were three columns that seemed like they could be freed so it was just a matter of finding which one was actually the one.

Not much challenge in the 8x2's the last two weeks but I've got to say come in 2nd place two weeks running s**cks. At least this week, I didn't even peek at the scoreboard until winning that 35th game - the pesky 7x3 in the bottom corner. So, no agonizing watch of losing at the last minute. Kudos to DAB for solving a good mix of tough games and getting the last at the wire. As to last week, I was already counting the chickens when WRAC solved that unsolvable 7x3. It's a good thing the day job still pays.
