A man showed me the game in Microsoft Windows in 99-00. I was mesmerized. Found this site, freecell.com in 03. Was terribly hooked and addicted for years. Went through most games, tourneys, streaking, chats, put up pics and discussed on discussion pages. Well now I confess I finally got the game out of my system and don't care about playing at all.

There was once a poster named "Peach-of-Discord", who although quite interesting and intelligent, raised the dander of, and even drew the wrath of, some others. I came here in an attempt to still the waters, and promote peace and harmony. Although I do believe there was some degree of assuagement, my ultimate goal was left unobtained.

I started playing freecell as a teenager on MS freecell (back in the late 90s) but kept getting upset with my sisters who would also play and inevitably ruin any streak I started. A few years later I discovered this site and all the wonderful variants...enjoyed streaking at first (mainly 8x4, 7x6, and 10x4), then fell in love with tournaments. These days I do mostly streaking again, across all 70 variants...average ranking of 74...but really enjoy the medium to hard variants so that is where I spend more time now. I enjoyed the SSC & WWC when they were around, now I'm focusing most of my streaking efforts towards joey's 11 & 12 sum competitions. After 15 years I finally broke 1000 hours playing, and with that I decided to see what variants I spent most of my time in over the course of my freecell life. The original 3 still dominate in 1st, 2nd and 9th. My favorite toughies 6x5 (3rd), 6x6 (4th), and 8x3 (6th) as they are usually winnable but always providing a good challenge. 10x6 (5th) & 9x5 (8th) are up there b/c I wanted to improve my average ranking across all variants and these 2 have tons of players and therefore required a lot of time to get a decent ranking. Variant & Hours 8x4-96.24, 7x6-76.84, 6x5-48.41, 6x6-35.82, 10x6-32.52 8x3-31.82, 10x2-28.20, 9x5-28.11, 10x4-21.76, 7x5-21.64

This made me laugh, CS: "After 15 years I finally broke 1000 hours playing," you and I are both glad that tournament-play time doesn't count on the play-time hours counter. I think I started playing when I was in grad school ( the second time around) so 17 to 20 years ago and I *only* have 1800 hours of playtime. I'm always willing to start tournaments when they're almost over. I don't like the fast tournaments or anything more than a 12-cell game. I remember for several years playing at midnight seeing how long of a streak you could get in the first hour of the day. I won a lot of those, but none of the screaming fast tournament players ever seemed to play for that hour. And I purposely broke streaks to start over at midnight. So streaking never really mattered much to me. Probably only tournaments I look for and try to show up at the start sometimes is the Zany Zeros. Other than that I suppose 9 by 2s are my favorite game but I'm trying to learn to like 8 by 3s and other 11s, cuz elevens are more of a challenge than 12. Anything more than 12 seems like, meh. (so some of those variants that Titanic Tony plays, I would never try) I want some challenge but also want some possibility that the game is likely to be winnable.

Although outskirts's query for the title of this thread isn't *exactly* the same as these earlier threads (I'll post two), anyone interested might find some interesting tidbits therein. (And not at all trying to steal your thunder or thread, outskirts - just helping out.......) Some good stories......

Well..................we *also* know (mostly) why it's not the case anymore. Although really two very connected reasons. And I'm not sure your question is really a hijack (totally). *THE* freecell story is told on these pages, and as such each of our private/semi-private/not-very private "stories" make up THE freecell story. It's a tapestry of virtually all things human, and thus was made the world of freecell to go 'round and 'round. (And yes, there was quite a bit of oftentimes deep discussion of freecell itself and related math-y issues.) It's actually quite sad and profound that the depth of quite a few hundreds or thousands of posts on this board - not to mention the distinctively elegant (well, sometimes) humor now goes to a considerable extent wafting towards the dustbin of bytes and bits. "Thar's gold in them thar posts." [There's you a book idea, Snowguy.] I haven't looked in *every* corner of this internet thang...........but of the vast parts I *have* encountered - not much has the overall appeal this site and board have had - much moreso then than now. And for the umpteenth time I/we must give thanks to our overlord: Mr. Fixit.

oh, and i went through an earthquake around 12:30 am this morn, so forgive me if i strike you as indiscreet (even though its my singular charm), i'm still a little freaked out. seriously, as i tried to escape the dreamtime i thought maybe my bed was shaking because someone was shaking it. as a montanan i'm ashamed i didn't fire at least 8 rounds into my environment as a response.

Well Happy Birthday an hour late! I had heard the earthquake was centered in Montana. Maybe you're back there now? Quite content that I missed being "borned up" in Syracuse (no offense to you or mrbuck, but maybe to Jim Boeheim - I'd be fine with that). And you don't strike me as being "indiscreet" (this time - lol). Right at this time I'm texting back and forth with a nephew who's enjoying the charms of Tahoe, and the mountains thereabout - so my mind was very much on the West already. And last night watched an episode of that PBS series on "how the earth was formed", or something similar, part of which was filmed in Yellowstone and just north of there in the Gallatin Nat'l Forest. So the 'connection' was perhaps even stronger than you knew. And yes, you 'amused' me even with your earlier nick, as per my comment Fri Aug 7 16:42:23 2015 in the first above-linked thread from above, when I first arrived at this site. You can "look it up".

'mr. bob' introduced me to Freecell.net. about 15 years ago. I was afraid of the computer, and he wrote software for Jones Day law firm; Computation of Trust and Estate tax soft ware..... ON our first date he showed me his 10" thick book on taxes, saying this is how my marriage failed. I knew then he was the man for me. I wouldn't have to entertain him. ... I am an artist . He always was looking for some game that could hold his attention: freecell.net (10x1) did it..... Hi, hot nurse et all!

After experiencing 2 TIA's and a stroke in 2003 within the same month, my wife put me on a rehabilitation schedule that included crossword puzzles (not my favorite pastime), building a patio (first time effort), and Freecell (hand and eye coordination - and some thinking). Thanks to her I made a complete recovery and continue to play Freecell in gratitude.

ImG...congrats on your recovery. My hubby, too, has had a little brain scramble in the last year. I bought him some word puzzle books and made him sit at his desk and do them for at least 30 min./day. He has made great improvements. Plus I thought it would be great exercise for him to vacuum the floors daily and bundle the trash. His legs now look sexy again.

hi hot nurse. . I am not digging a bomb shelter, out here . But I am painting "scarcastic" political digs at our government'?" .....Painted a drinking glass , half full, half empty with a wiki leak ,coming in the water ripple around the leaking glass. , I am also thanking SENATOR MCLAINE (sic)for his service to our country, as well as his conscience to the people of these United States OF America.HE may have brain cancer, but he uses more of what he has than most of our representatives. And..To get past the trauma of..the depression mr trump has caused our citizens, we are rescuing animals, and buying puppies. you can't worry if you are cuddling a puppy, and you may even smile. (And Trump doesn't have a puppy....) My latest painting is of senator Burr, and Senator Warner, with Trump as King Lear. Called "Speak No Evil". I am still writing mr.bob's and our love story. But I got hung up around the time Mr.BoB realized that when one takes a "WHORETOCULTURE",, it doesn't make her smart. ( That is a little Steven King ish.) And of course ,even after paying taxes, I am still focussing on 10x1, free cell.net. Thanks to all of you and kudos to Denny. I'm getting old , (not like the rest of you), so I'm going to catch more zzzzzzs. Be Well, Do good work, and keep in Touch. Jeanne

Jeanne, as always, good to hear from you and about your latest endeavors. Saying that you are getting old is also saying that a good majority of us "old-timers" are getting there along with you. I am always happy to hear from anyone who has been around since the early 2000's...especially if they are still alive, lol. I hope you get your book published while I still have the wits to appreciate your humor. Love you!
