I'm not in any pickem pools this year, and I can say with confidence that my record would suck by now, and getting worse. I recall something from our Post-Gazette newspaper, that a contest would include these terms. Pick one win each week, and keep on going until your next week's pick loses. Then you are out. And, if I recall correctly, you can't pick the same team again that season. There is still a lot of season left, and plenty of time for most-if-not-all of us to be eliminated. If so, Thursday Night would start the next week. Anybody want to try? If we carry it to the Playoffs, obviously, we would all start with a clean slate to continue. If you picked the Pats in Week 10, in the Playoffs you could pick them again. Once. It would require some strategy. (Pick an NFC team in the first round and save the Pats? And then another AFC team in the second round, etc.) Say we all are eliminated before season's end. Then, we could all start anew for the playoffs... Any takers, for this week?

Somebody asked me a question. The answer is, reasonably, that it should be okay to make a pick any time before kickoff of your game. Or, do you think we should impose a deadline? I see no reason to. do so.

Let's add a wrinkle. We can't pick a team as the loser more than once. That way, we can't, for example, pick everybody who plays the Browns or the Niners. With 11 weeks to go, that would be 22 teams (out of 32 teams total) for each of us. In light of this, anybody can change their already-made pick. But after that, picks would be set in stone, once made. Also, You can pick one team in one game as winner and as loser in another game. (Winner against Team A and later, for example, Loser against Team B.)

Snowy You are the man running it, I am only to happy to play by your choice of conditions. Regardless my tip will stand. In answer to your questions. I agree that anytime before kickoff is fine it might backfire against someone leaving it that late if they miss that they have already tipped the winner as a winner before or the loser as a loser before. I do like the idea that you can only tip a team to lose once as well, even though it does stop my original plan of trying to keep to tipping anyone playing the Browns. When I placed my tips the Titans were losing to the Colts (the final result was somewhat different) and this weekend they visit the Browns. I actually think the Browns might be a sneaky chance this round. huffy

In answer to a question posed on the P&R Board, where we have 3 or 4 picks so far: (Regarding if I will keep score) Kinda. I will just have a look on Tuesday morning at how folks made out, and list those still in the game. Say, you decide to pick Monday Night Football's winner. No need to pick until just before kickoff Monday night.

Well, I don't follow football as much as I used to, esp. the pros, but what the heck. With the near-parity out there (and 4 pickers gone already) this competition should be over in 3-5 weeks (in time to start another one?) With all that said.... Bills over Bucs P&R board still exists!?!? Thought that succumbed years ago. With the goings-on in 'recent history', that must have been being a raucous party/riot at times.

Odds are that, even picking straight-up, 40% or so of us will be gone every week. 3 losses this week would leave 4 to go on. It might be wrapped up in three weeks... But don't worry. We can re-start for the Playoffs.

As an Eagles fan I don't see it as a sure thing...I'm still not sold we are as good as our record. So I probably am not going to feel super confident using my Eagles pick to win over a stronger team, so now seemed as good a time as any. That said, coming off a short week against a team they could overlook could present problems, while 49ers coming off getting absolutely crushed will be trying to prove they belong in the NFL. Still I felt like most of the other matchups were close to toss ups, so went with the best odds on paper.

If you only rate the Eagles middle pack then the selection is a good one. Also if the near 50% attrition rate continues then I have way over thought the tactics. That happens and you are in a very good position. I believe the Eagles are the most certain winner this weekend and its more a matter of how far rather than IF they win. I am keeping the Eagles as winners and the 49ers as losers for a future point in time. Looking to get 2 games from them instead of 1. I don’t currently rate my selection this week (Bengals) highly and expect that if I continue to survive they are a team that I can potentially double use in that I can find a game where I can tip them to lose.

After initially thinking I'd take "whoever-is-against-CS" to lose (which would be an Eagles over 49s pick), and is a likely winner, and not wanting to pick cheaters (Brady & co.) to win, and thinking Brownies just *may* be due (in Twickenham, no less; and no, I'm not really calling for that upset).......I'm gonna try another hard one and save the (supposedly) easy ones, just in case I survive: Saints over da Bearce - knowing that's only maybe a 58%-61% chance of being a winner.

I have been pondering the difference between: Chiefs vs Raiders and then (the next week, if I am correct) Ravens vs. Dolphins Three or four plays after the time ran out--but not "overtime"--as opposed to a real yawner in the second half.

I also was likely going to go for the Texans over those particular ponies, and that was before CS's announcement. But with the caveat that "our" Pony wasn't going to be activated. That would have been a horse of a different color, obviously. And now that's likely out the window regardless. I may have to use my Eagles pick over the *other* ponies from that mile-high place. [That is not a pronouncement of a pick, in case it's not clear.]

And then there were 5. Sorry Gremlin I would have thought the Bills would have won that game but it broke 2 of the huffy rules I am using playing this comp so didn't even think about using it. If someone takes me on by taking the Redskins then we have at least one person go into the next round. Out of interest what happens if there is still a draw at the end extra time? Are you eliminated because you did not pick a winner or do you stay in the comp because your team did not lose?
