(Happy new year! New thread started for this year.)

This calculation is being done for all players who have current streaks in at least two 12-sum variants (variants MxN such that the sum of M (number of columns) and N (number of freecells) is 12.) The "Standard" and popular 8x4 is such a variant. "Current" means that you have played the variant in question in streak-counting mode during the last 14 days. Streak-counting mode is defined for the purpose of this calculation as any mode that increases your games-played count for the variant, and therefore excludes tournament plays, custom plays that select a specific game number, and replays. Normally Denny will age you off the current streak list if you don't play in 14 days (but your streak does survive intact and will be reinstated to the current list when you play (and win) that variant again.) If, due to Denny's bug with the saved time, you still appear on the current list despite not having played in 14 days, this calculation ignores such appearance. I am only displaying for this table folks who have 4 or more such current streaks.

The score for each person is calculated as the product, over all 9 varaints, of log-to-the-base-2(StreakLength+2). This operates to grant higher scores for streaking in all the variants rather than just concentrating on one or two easier variants, but each game won still counts. StreakLength + 2 means that the minimum multiplier in each column is 1, when you have no streak in that variant - multiplying by 1 leaves the score unchanged with respect to the rest of your variants.

The calculation is currently being autoscheduled twice a week, every 3.5 days on Thursday night and Monday morning, and is posted to this thread.

We are also calculating an up/down column, to show how far you may have risen or fallen since the previous run, and a high-water-mark (HWM) column that shows the best score you've ever had since this metric started in March 2017. Also saved is the date the HWM was achieved but it is not being displayed currently due to space constraints.

Happy New Year everybody! I was curious what the 12-sum results would look like sorted by "HWM", so here it is (I sure hope it formats okay):

Copying Joey's thread (all 4 pages) was fairly easy, but then it got complicated!
1) Early on, Joey changed his format several times.
2) The numerical data came across as "text", and didn't sort properly -- I finally managed to convert the text to digits.
3) I forgot that I had put in a table based on all-time best streaks, which ruined everything, and I had to start all over with that table deleted. I also deleted an 11-sum table that had mistakenly got into the 12-sum thread.
4) A *lot* of the work was done manually, so I apologize in advance for any errors!!

I am showing the results for the 40 players with a HWM > 1000.
CONGRATULATIONS to HopDiriDiriDattiriDittiriDom who is in first place with a HWM of 35,065,834!

1) Yes, my spreadsheet contains the hwms of every player ever on the list, and also the date it was recorded. HopDiriDiri or whatever that name is (it's lyrics of a Turkish folk song) has the highest as I recall. I think he's stuck on a lost game but no knowing what variant. 2) My cable (i.e., my computer access to the internet) was down three days last week, due to I think a power surge wrecking the network terminal box supplied by the ISP. They finally came and replaced it Friday, too late for Thursday night's run. (It did run but of course could not download anything so no results.) I know it is possible with hot spots to go through the cellular access, but I'd have to throw some money at that, which is not happening. I thought of doing a manual run Friday afternoon when I was back up but nah: my policy - when a run gets missed, just wait for the next one - continues.

PapaRatzi, That's what I think too. He/she has the all time record and it is quite a feat. But some of those are unwinnable and Hop may have finally gotten unlucky. (Almost all of the first 400 games of 7x5 level 10 when sorted by win percentage are unwon...however many have only been played a few times. Let's say 100-200 are unwinnable. Then each game has a probability of 1/320 to 1/160 of being unwinnable. So the probability of even running into only winnable games for 750 in a row is from 1% to 10%.) Of course, maybe Hop is just on a break. James

Imo, if you are "retired", then you can't "do it"! And, if you did "do it" then you wouldn't be "retired". In my experience, all "winnable" games are winnable, although quite a lot have not yet been won! Actually, quite a lot of them have not even been played yet. For example, so far less than 2000 of the 32,768 4x10, level 10, games have been played. My dream, of "playing them all" will never be realized. However, I have played 40,600 games of 13x2.

jbb - there are at most 30 unwinnable 7x5 level 10's. more likely around 25. free@last ran a bunch of the variants through his solver and only 30 were unable to be solved (but we know from other variants that there are a few it fails on that are actually solvable).

Am I jbb? Regardless, that's interesting data. It seems like some of it is missing. For example for 5x7, I could only find data for level six. Weird. So if only 30 7x5's are unwinnable then it's more like a 50% chance of getting 750 winnables in a row. Which makes me wonder now...why hasn't someone done better than that? This is what I see from that document, "jbb", concerning 7x5: 30 7x5-10.txt 0 7x5-5.txt 0 7x5-6.txt 1 7x5-7.txt 5 7x5-8.txt 16 7x5-9.txt (meaning.........that's the number of each climate that the solver couldn't solve) And yes, I think your math is correct. But just because it's winnable doesn't mean it's not utterly difficult - which you obviously know.

I guess I'm more surprised now because I've found the 7x5's so far to be pretty easy. I figured that streaks were ending when people were hitting unwinnables. To clarify, 12x0's are pretty easy...except when they are unwinnable. And a lot of them are unwinnable. But that only makes sense because with that flavor there isn't all that much you can do...either you can finagle a free column (or two) or it's over. With 7x5's there are soooo many options. I actually don't really enjoy them (6x6 are worse, really dislike 5x7 and despise 4x8 which is why I play all of those only when I "have" to). With 7x5's I guess many of the winnable ones must be difficult to solve, as you say. I've gotten lucky so far then. 7x1....given the number of unwinnable 11x1's there are, hard to imagine anyone making it to level 10. James

I don't see that Denny actually has switched to https for this site. I do specifically navigate to http://www.freecell.net, but navigating to that by hand still works, and to https://www.freecell.net by hand doesn't work. So if he did switch I'd be broke until I switched too, but... I guess I gotta go "instrumentate the code" as we say. I got other things to do right now, so don't know when. Yes and no. I actually had time to fix it last Friday, the 30th, whereas I didn't start playing again myself until Monday. But I do grant that my scheduled break's end, set for Monday, had some effect on my time to look into the problem. Turned out to be an inadvertent cookie clearing situation.
