been playing for about 10 years on and off. started at game 1 and didn't move to game 2 till game 1 was beaten. I had always believed that all games are solvable which kept me going when I got bogged down with a difficult game. That belief was shattered when I got to game 11982. It turns out that there are some unsolvable games and 11982 is the 1st of them. 10 years and 11981 wins and then bang. Not sure if I want to carry on now

I'm glad you finally did the research, so you could finally stop beating your head against that stone wall. I've been playing for 28 years or so, ever since I first bought that 386sx that was my first pc (because I don't count the Commodore 64 as such) and I can't imagine going ten years without knowing there was an unwinnable game. Didn't 617 make you wonder?

Not sure of the game number but I did have 49 attempts at one game before I cracked it. Got up to 72 fails before I started wondering about 11982

Individual Stats - valleyboy Total hours playing: 0.00 <------------------------------------ Last seen: Wed Apr 18 16:04:45 2018 Game in progress: No Google: In the FreeCell that comes with Windows (and in Pretty Good Solitaire and FreeCell Wizard) the following game numbers are impossible: #11982, #146692, #186216, #455889, #495505, #512118, #517776, and #781948. If you continue playing "on and off" (~ 1200 games/year), you will never get to game #146692, imo. Now, if you were to increase your rate of play, then you might want to remember that games #146692, and #186216, are also not winnable. On this site, I have played for over 13 years, and I have played > 245,700 games (in about 71 different variants). Huffy has played >1,000,000 games. You might like to consider playing here??? The historical statistics are fantastic, imo!!! And here, all of the 8x4 games are winnable.

I did that same thing years ago before joining this site. I started at 1 and kept going the same way valleyboy did it. And I kept track so I knew what game I left off with. And when I first found THIS site, I used to play just the 8X4 variant. But years ago, I started playing some of the other variants & stopped playing the original Freecell. I got up to over 74,000 games. And, by the way, I knew about 11982 BEFORE I got to it, but I found a way to play 11982 as an 8X5 and was able to win that one...:-) But I not only like the variety of this site, I also like some of the people here on this site. I really only played the tougher variants (the 11's: 10X1, 9X2, etc. because of TitanicTony and his Winnable Wednesday Challenge. I prefer the 12's & the 13's. Kudos to all of Tony's hard work and efforts. Good Luck, whichever way you decide valleyboy and enjoy !!

I, too, completed the original 32000 MicroSoft® deals before coming here. Although, I threw in the towel on #11982 after a few tries.
