(First, in deference to TN: though I haven't found it advisable, as he perhaps would, to add this musing to its related page, I do link said page.) (So I vowed earlier this year to myself that I would match and beat my 8x4 all time, established more than 16 years ago, before year's end. But I failed repeatedly to muster the necessary self discipline. So on December 1, informing myself rather sternly that this was my last chance, I schemed to win 12 of them a day for the month, which would tie myself on the 30th leaving one more day to break through. It's worked so far, but this musing is on a side note.) I notice I've now played 30,000 8x4 games in my 20+ years here. The first amazing thing is that, among all players on the all-time list, that isn't even in the top hundred: it's 120th. But the second, even more amazing thing is, on the *current* list, which is everybody who has played an 8x4 in the last 14 days except for those who lost the last one they played, that 30,000 only ranks 806th. That means that there are at least 686 nicks that have played 30,000 games without even making it to the all-time list. And who knows how many more, of people who stopped playing forever more than two weeks ago. Anyway that seems like such a huge number to me. I never would have supposed there were that many people so persistent, like I have been, without (again, like I haven't been) being that great at it.

You have my blessing to, joey, have this as a new, separate thread - as if I was some arbiter of that. LOL. Beyond that....I *think* I see your point. By "making it to the all-time list", you mean top 100 streak length list? Or have not had a streak longer than your 360? My comprehension is a bit weak on that...

The all-time list is actually the top thousand: ten pages, a hundred a page. The current list is arbitrarily long, it includes everyone who won his last game in the variant 14 days ago or less. I believe the 8x4 current list is 23 pages or so right now, so some 2200 folks. (My auto-software looks at the whole list.) For the all-time list, though, whenever somebody makes it on somebody else gets dropped. Although not all variants have filled their thousand yet.

The ever-unpopular 4x8 all-time list has only 792 members as we speak. Of course we have no idea what percent of the random 4x8s are winnable, but evidently from 40 to 50 percent of the level 5s are. C'mon peeps, get yself on an all-time list! You can win 1 out of 5 even if you ain't trying too hard, which is generally how I'm playing them when I'm at zero.

Nope, right on time. 12 a day since the first. It only ties my best so I'm tempted to break discipline... but I won't.

Stunning discipline. Are you in such control in all aspects of your life? (If so, I think I'll be buying your upcoming book.) Further..........it's now clear you were correct in starting a new thread with this quest - as if anyone really doubted it. Well done. And even *weller* done sometime tomorrow, I think we can wager. We'll all be on "joey watch"!

Haha. The fact that I first did it 15 years ago and it took this long to repeat speaks to my usual LACK of discipline. And I have to say, it's been wearing on me, playing every single 8x4 game with this exaggerated care. Spending 7 minutes on games I would win in 2 and a half normally, just making sure. I'm doubting that I can keep it up, or that I will. I had one serious scare at the 130 mark. I spent more than a day starting at that one, working it out. It was a 30%er, with 4 plausible lines. Another one - a 50%er - was harder in the sense of finding any plausible line, but there was only one way to go in that one, so after I found the line it sort of played itself. Just as well I had the Ravens to watch today, and now the Colts/Titans!

It's funny, cause I was watching over my sister's house, and her husband is from Cleveland, and he and his two sons are both big browns fans. and I had to listen to a whole lot of malarkey about how the browns were robbed, on the fumble blown dead play. So don't you start.

Well, I mean they're right, right? But then their ineptitude on the following wide-open pass play that bounced off the receiver's helmet sort of sums up their bad-luck, snake-bit state lately, too. I don't wanna say it was "inevitable", but it sort of had that feel to it.
