Hi there, Sorry to hear that the poor man has been ripped off. I haven't been able to make the link work either, but it reminded me to look and see how my account was and, since I have received some repayments, I decided to re-lend to this lovely lady in El Salvador. It's only 25 dollars, but every litle helps. I just realised that I am a bit of a female chauvinistic sow, since I have only lent to women up until now. I think it is subconsciously because I know what these women have to put up with and that, in the ultimate analysis, if Dad can't be bothered or isn't around, it is the mother that has to put the food on the table and bring up the kids. No offence to all the great Dads out there, but I believe that the percentage of men that don't give a damn or go AWOL is much higher than the corresponding percentage of women. Anyway, for the moment, I have a 100% repayment record of which I am very proud (on behalf of my female loan recipients)!! Luv2uall, Chrissie

Here's the text of an email I just received from Kiva: "Hi (Joe) We'd like to give you a repayment update on the loans you've made through Kiva. A total of $36.14 has been repaid over the past month! As of 2009-07-28, you now have $36.14 in Kiva Credit in your account. Click here to re-lend, withdraw or donate these funds! Or you can show your friends some Kiva Love with a Kiva gift certificate." It then goes on to outline the payments received this month from my entrepreneurs. I will receive this email every month for a while. These are good people. Snowy

If anybody would like to join us, I will start you off with a Kiva gift certificate out of my repayments so you can hit the ground running! (If you choose not to answer in here, my email is jpbogo (at) verizon.net) I would need your email, because they are necessary in giving gift certificates. The way I see it is, you using $25 of my repayments to lend is as good as me lending the same $25.

Just joined and loaned $25 to a woman in Central America. Tried to upload my picture but all I get is the Kiva logo...maybe they have someone screening pictures before they allow them to go live? Anyway, happy to be part of TeamFreecell!

Welcome aboard! Anyway, on a lighter subject (pun fully intended...) did you all hear about the Columbian drug lord who decided not to trust banks any more? Instead, he had bricks made of cannabis resin, and had a local builder construct his house out of them. Trouble was, he actually got a bit of a taste for cannabis just because of breathing the air in the house, and the fire service had to be called when he fell asleep smoking a joint, and the whole place started to go up... Just goes to prove - people who live in grass houses shouldn't get stoned... Helen

I see both Buck (mrbuck) and watersmooth_silver are on board! That took us off both the"Bakers' Dozen" and the "unlucky" Number Thirteen. Welcome aboard, both. (And, both new members have made loans.) Okay. 15 members so far. Can we reach 20 by the end of August? (Remember, you can join without actually lending. Lend in the future when your circumstances are right for you.)

I've thought of another way to try this - hope it works! If this page loads, there should be a link via the 'Admic' given at the right hand side of the page - above all the stars & such.

I've changed my mind about something - just wanted to let you all know before I finally acted on it. I'm a member of a couple of different lending teams now, and I think I probably am going to count a few loans against them. If you wish to depose me as TeamFreecell captain, tell me now - I can take it.

Welcome to watersmooth_silver (very nice photo, btw!), and Mr.Buck -- glad to have you both on the team! Anyone care to suggest an August loan to target as a team? Or maybe we don't want to do that every month? Thx for the info about Admic, malr. It was sad to see the fraud, but I was pleased w/ the way that Kiva handled their situation...an on-site visit for better accountability, restructuring their loan repayment, and preventing them from further Kiva funding until their defaults are corrected. Those seem like very sensible and responsible actions. And also, malr, I have no problem with you being on as MANY teams as you like. Go for it, girlfriend! But you'll never be rid of the co-captain title--hehehe... :)

I see the microfinance agency, Agro Capital, is rated five stars of a possible five stars. Per Kiva, that translates into the highest possible likelihood of repayment. 16 women and 7 men. It would be a shame.

The beer guy from Norway you showed just above has already made 67 loans! The group you featured above (16 women and 7 men) were in danger of missing out entirely. With only one day to go, they were still short about 40% or $2000. In fact, we all got a warning that the loan would not be made, and the loans we had made would be refunded into our accounts. But people came through and they are now funded!

Okay, right now, Samoan loans have 5 stars. Highest possible chance of being repaid. I've made two (count 'em!) loans to Samoa, both 13% repaid. Anyone want to guess when exactly I want to see the other 87%? Next month? Next year? Whenever? Don't care. People work hard and the carpet gets ripped from under them, you don't take back what you gave them, you give them more until the problem is fixed. They're 5*'s from now until whenever, whether I see repayments or not. Anyone who's trying to rebuild gets my vote and my money. h.

Actually, helen, your link two posts above includes people from several countries. If somebody wants to help a Samoan, they can just type "Samoa" in the "Search" box. By the way, we picked up another lender, "Anonymous" from California. Now we are 18!

Goof job on the late loaners, co-captain mabb. But as for our team? We currently have lent $38,075 with 1340 total loans. (28 team members) We are, of course, continuing sillama in the team, even though she passed away. How about a nice, new Christmas season goal? $40,000 lent via 1360 loans. Ready, team?
