Last night the U. of Pittsburgh and Syracuse (ranked #3 and 4) met in men's basketball. What was unusual was the game's beginning. In one way, it was a bizarre game, unlike any of the 155 played before it at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers took a 19-0 lead against a team that came in with an 18-0 record. Syracuse answered with a 17-0 run against a team that was 17-1. After the first few minutes the score was 19-0, and after a few minutes more, it was 19-17. Amazing. Are there any other strange game situations that spring to your mind?

Snowy,Ive seen so many of those in college AND pro basketball it would make your head spin. Your example is quite unique though in the sense both teams were so highly ranked AND the turnaround in points was nearly perfect for Syracuse! Had to be a record of somm sort. If it was MLB ball, you KNOW thered be a record to compare it to. Who knows,Elias? Probably have to pay them to find out. Any strange games spring to mind? Hmmm...not right off the top of my mind. Well, last May or so the Mets trailed the Nats at the new ballpark 6-2 in the 8th. Seemingly forever later, they beat Wash. 8-6. Oh,and a month earlier,in St.L. The Mets and Cards went 18 innings SCORELESS before they BOTH scored a run in the VERY NEXT 3 HALF INNINGS before the Mets won it in 20.

Your second example is awesome, FAST! One thing that amazes me is when teams go to multiple overtimes in basketball, for example. To do it, both teams have to score the same number of points in each overtime, as well as in regulation. There has to be a record out there for that! And the result is that one team gets rewarded and goes home totally whipped but happy, while for the other, Mudville gets no joy.

Back in the "crazy baseball occurrence" thread, Kaos brought up Curry hitting 77 consecutive 3s (in practice), and then I countered with a guy who hit over 200 (at age 60). But since that's really a baseball thread, and this is more a 'snippet', I'm putting it here. I've happened to have seen this guy play in person several times. He's got about the most incredibly quick release you'll ever see - and that includes guys in "the league":

Today, the Pitt Panthers were the gracious and generous hosts to the #1 Virginia Cavaliers. The Cavs jumped out to an 8-0 lead and coasted to a 66-37 win. Pitt scored their 7th point with 9:11 remaining in the first half, and didn't score again until the second half. The Virginia starters were treated to the bench for most of the game. The non-starters took 25 of the 49 Cavs' shots and scored 37 of the 66 points. The 26-2 Cavs clinched the ACC regular season title with the win, while Pitt has cratered -- 8-22 overall and 0-17 in conference. To their credit, the Panther fans have stayed with the team, and the Petersen Events Center was packed.

I thought Snowy would like the 0-17 part of this story -- it aligns well with his opening post.
