The interesting thing is this is a group loan. His is the flagship part of it. WHY didn't they use somebody else's loan as their flagship? The woman might have needed dressmaking supplies. Another man might need money for brick-making supplies. But they emphasize his. In any case, he won't get any of mt lending funds. Just wondering; what is "crude alcohol?" Is it alcohol in its natural state that he intends to refine and sell, rather than just resell?

Our little group has made 461 loans at a total value of $14,200. I think it's pretty safe to say we should hit $15,000 in the first half of this year! I, personally, have had 2 or 3 (partial) loan defaults, but that's because I made a number of loans to people of great need, but whose local micro-finance agency was low rated. One agency in Africa has been discontinued from Kiva participation, and it appears all their loans will default. But no worry. If you lend only through 3-star and above agencies, there should be no problem. And some agencies in Africa are strong and perform well in administering loans. (Kiva volunteers and staff are usually on-site with the various agencies.) We could still use a few new members. It's pretty cool seeing the same $25 eventually help a number of small businesspersons, through re-lending of repaid loans. (In many ways, a loan is better than "charity" where the money, once spent, is gone. And, the money is available for you to withdraw at any time, after repayment and before you lend it again.) Have a look, check us out, join the team, and maybe make a loan when you are comfortable. You can use PayPal, which keeps your credit or debit card invisible to the borrower agency, and which carries no fee. PayPal has waived fees for Kiva loans!

You know what Kiva's really good for? You know those people that you *have* to get them a present, knowing that four months later they *have* to get you a present of equal or greater value, followed eight months later by :goto begin loop? That. They can end up with a really cool DVD that you'd never have bought for them, you can end up with a really cool t-shirt they'd never have bought for you - and in the meantime, that money is getting LAUNDERED! Gotta love the really clean money. Give with insincerity. Give with ostentatious glee. Or gleeful ostentation, whatever. It's all good, and getting better. Plus - right now, where else can you go for good news about Norway?

Just made some more loans, from money returned to me by borrowers! TeamFreecell: 26 members have lent $26,925 in 935 loans (Members, check your balances. I sat on my accumulation far too long!) Also, if you want to "churn" your money faster, sort by Repayment Schedule. All the shortest term loans appear first. Everybody else, check out that process. It's really fulfilling, lending money to tine entrepreneurs, who have been vetted locally, so they will become good and solid contributors to their local economies! Join the Team and help us get to $30,000. (Probably more than $25,000 is returned money, always available for you to withdraw after it is returned to your account.)

Over 900 local small business persons have benefited! (When one of us lends $25, for example, there may also be a couple dozen or more lenders on 4 or 5 continents, in perhaps 10-20 countries all contributing to that one loan. Here, for example, is a small group of 5 businesspersons who have so far benefited (as of the instant I am typing this) by the assistance of nearly 50 lenders. (The list is shown.) By the time the 72%-funded loan has been completely established, there will likely be 65-70 lenders involved. The main ,eber is using their share to buy more clothes and cooking supplies. The other 4 will be doing something similar for their businesses. IN Tanzania, the average annual income is $723. It only takes $25, refundable after the loan has been repaid, to get involved! I use PayPal to keep things straight. Nobody but PayPal has any access to my personal or financial information. It's a portal through which I hand a loan to people on the other side. (Same when I buy things on-line, in many cases.) Why not join us and help us get to 1000 loans and $30,000? It's only $25 at a time, even though one member likes to lend $50 whenever possible.

Regarding "Mtumwa" (the key member) we Capitalist thinkers should really appreciate this info I pulled out: "This will be her eighth loan request from Tujijenge Tanzania, which she will use to buy more clothes and food cooking items. With the previous loans, all of which she paid back successfully, she managed to increase all her business stock. The business profit was used to put light in her own room and covered home expenses. Mtumwa dreams that one day she will able to own a hotel." Building local economies, one business at a time!

Just found some repayments in my account, so I could re-lend, making two more loans. As fo now, Team Freecell: Made 1392 individual loans, averaging 49.7 loans per member, most for $25, and a few for $50 We have 28 Members, of whom two are Captains (One has passed away, but she continues in membership--Sillama We have lent $39,425, which I suspect is about 5/6 repaid money We have provided loans in 78 countries, of which the total of countries using Kiva currently is 85. (But a few countries are shown as "Inactive" but counted in total countries Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Lebanon have received more loans than other countries, including the USA Lets' get the average up to 50 loans per member, and the total to $40,000! (Repaid loans must have more than that amount just "lying around.") (We are always recruiting new members, but not always diligently) Why not join us? Lending is, in so many ways, more satisfying than charitable gifts, because it is a means of "helping fishermen to fish rather than feeding them fish."
