Freecell for Pilot and Visor
Now you CAN take it with you.
Release V1.2 of our new version of Freecell for PalmOS
is now available.
This new portable version
of Freecell features a highly readable display, color support,
support for
game variants from 6 to 8 columns with 2 to 6 cells, and of
course score keeping (more info below).
To try this version, simply click on the link below and either
save it and launch it or execute it directly from the download
box. This will schedule the new Freecell application for
installation on your Palm-compatible device with your next
HotSync operation. Note: requires PalmOS version 3.0 or higher.

- Giving up
-
By far the most common question has been, "How do I quit a losing game?"
Here's how. There is a little "list" sorta icon to the left of the
Graffiti area. That brings up drop-down menus for all applications.
Clicking on that will cause a menu bar to appear with several categories
of options, including Game, Locate, and Screen. Click on Game and
then Give Up to quit out of a game. You'll find that this drop-down
menu icon will bring up a bunch of options in your other applications.
It's surprising how many Palm users have not discovered this yet!
- Selecting cards to move
-
I have tried to make the selection areas a big as possible so that
you can hit them easily while being bounced around on a bus or
whatever. You may select anywhere along the length of a column
and once you select a destination it will figure out what the
appropriate cards to move are. Also, to move cards up to the aces
you select the source and then click anywhere in the aces area (it
doesn't have to be the correct suit) and it will move the card up.
- Double tapping a column
-
I have also tried to make the card faces more readable than other Palm
versions of Freecell. But if a pile gets really long the cards
can start to become compressed and not quite as visible. Selecting
a column and then clicking it again will "riffle" through the cards
so that all can be clearly seen.
- Locating cards
-
The much-loved "locate" feature is provided in this new handheld
version. Going to the Locate menu while playing will give you
the option of which card value to flash, or you can simply enter the
graffiti character A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, T, J, Q, or K to find
the cards of that rank.
- Game numbers
-
The game numbers for the mobile version are different from the
game numbers of the online version. When referring to a mobile
game, the prefix 'M' is used to distinguish between the NetCELL
online games and the PalmOS games. E.g. M24321-7 refers to
mobile game #24321 with difficulty level 7.
- Screen Contrast
-
From the menu options (described above) you can select two different
modes for B&W play: high contrast and gray scale. Gray scale is
often nicer unless you run you device with the screen contrast turned
down. Adjusting screen contrast varies from device to device, but
appears particularly well hidden on Palm m100. Look for the little
circle thingy at the upper right of the number entry area-- click that
and you'll get the screen adjustment slider.
