Ooooohhhhh. That's a DEEEP one, for sure. While it's political, at its core, that's really more existential, so it should be allowed. And dang........I have no answer at all on this matter.
You missed (or is it messed up?) the point.
Not being an American, I am neither interested in nor qualified to make political statements concerning USA.
Today's thought of deepness was a quote from Henry Kissinger about university politics and his life span was shown as year of birth dash blank and my post was pointing out the error.
No way I could have known that (except by luck of seeing that particular blurb), but thanks for clarifying. (But yes, I knew he passed away last year.)
He's not.

"It's the good girls who keep diaries; the bad girls never have the time." -Tallulah Bankhead
And they don't want a written record for evidence!

"If a man does his best, what else is there?" -- General George S. Patton (1885-1945)
Answer: A woman doing ~her~ best.

Thought of Deepness
"University politics are vicious precisely because the stakes are so small." -- Henry Kissinger (1923-)
Exactly the same as McDonald's politics ππ
And the steaks are small too
I'm trying to envision (and hopefully see) England's (First) millennium celebration, but I have no idea what it'll be like.
I laughed at your George Carlin hemorrhoid joke π
Thought of Deepness says "Do not overtax your powers"
The way I am playing at the moment I fear that a 13x10 level 1 will overtax my powers.
Nice one

Thought of Deepness
History is curious stuff
You'd think by now we had enough
Yet the fact remains I fear
They make more of it every year.
I like that!

Thought of Deepness
If you notice that a person is deceiving you, they must not be deceiving you very well.
The best quote ππ

Thought of Deepness
"Nietzsche was stupid and abnormal." -- Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910)
The first one to come up for me today:
"Bacon's not the only thing that's cured by hanging from a string."
(unattributed)
I seldom pause over these quotes, but this one seemed a bit out of line with the normal fluff we get for our deep thoughts. Surely, something is missing. Here's the whole thing:
"After A.E. Housman"
What, still alive at twenty-two,
A clean, upstanding chap like you!
Sure, if your throat 'tis hard to slit,
Slit your girl's, and swing for it.
Like enough, you won't be glad
When they come to hang you, lad:
But bacon's not the only thing
That's cured by hanging from a string.
So, when the spilt ink of the night
Spreads o'er the blotting-pad of light
Lads whose job is still to do
Shall whet their knives, and think of you.
--Hugh Kingsmill
It is a parody of Housman's work. Worth a google.
That's gold
Just logged on. That thought of Deepness should not be spoken here in the pure realm of Rivendell. The sky darkens! The earth trembles in fear.
I loved that quote so much I looked him up. Oh that John Sloan! Artists are awesome. π
