OK, there's a huge article in the WSJ about him, why we can't discuss him here is ridiculous. Broncos (under TT) are now tied with first in the AFC WEST. COME ON! THIS BEGS DISCUSSION

The Broncos have played a relatively easy schedule since Tebow took over, but they have beaten some fairly solid teams. The teams remaining on their schedule are either weak or injury-depleted. Tebow is a poor passer. He is strong and can throw it very far, but he has limited accuracy. With this in mind, the Denver coach has implemented an offense tailored to what the Broncos do very well: run. They have a great offense line for run blocking and Tebow reads running options very well. Unless something remarkable happens, the Broncos will finish either 10-6 or 9-7 and will win their division. And Tebow will annoy a large number of people at every step.

Well, the WSJ was taking a bit of a provocative stance in talking about Tebow. I don't like his constant "Thank you, Jeebus", but I avoid that by not listening to his interviews. One thing I find amusing about Tebow is his incessant declaration that, "I don't get wound up in all of this because it's only a game. That helps me keep it in perspective." But before and after every big play, Tebow takes "the stance." I guess he figures that God and/or JC are big football fans because simply never stops praying during the game. Maybe he's not praying about football stuff. Who knows. "Please, God, help me ignore that my center hasn't showered since that last time we lost a football game."

I doubt he really thinks "it's just a game." Why would he be praying so often during play time if he felt it wasn't a big deal? Of course it's a big deal. That's you're bread and butter! (and lots of it!)

maybe TT is like a lot of his kind, the more he prays, the more likely his prayers will come true.

The division winners enter into a playoff scenario. The division winners with the best records get one week off. The other division winners and wildcard teams play in the first week. Those winners advance to the next round, and those winners advance to the AFC and NFC championship games. Those winners play in the Superbowl. Denver will likely have the worst record of all division winners in the AFC, so they will play in the first weekend. They will need three playoff wins to advance to the Superbowl. Ain't happenin'.

Maybe this will help. After divisional, they'd go to conference matchup, then super.

Oh, I think he's fine. I enjoyed watching him in FL. I think he's got some growing to do as an NFL player, but he's a great player at the college level. I don't think he's great at pro level -- yet. I think there's a lot of hype. No, I don't care too much for the praying stuff, but in New England, we tend to keep our religion to ourselves. Not too many charismatics here. But that doesn't affect how well I like him, as a person or a player.

OK, that that is another Pat, you're a pat. OK: I found this from the article: I don't like: "Another Denver rabbi, Temple Sinai's Rick Rheins, said he might feel "compelled" to preach about Tebow if the Broncos sneak into the playoffs. Then he reminded himself of this week's Torah portion. It's about Jacob wrestling with uncertainties of his own. "He's not the most accurate thrower in the world, and he obviously has questionable NFL quarterback skills, and yet he doesn't doubt himself," said Rheins, who roots for the Bengals, Colts and of course the Broncos." from the same article: I do like: ""I know I'm a Muslim and he's a Christian, but I admire somebody who thanks God for everything that he gave him," Hamideh said. "The team has rallied around him not because of his religious beliefs but because they believe this guy has something in him that pushes him the right way."

I like: "A prominent area atheist also declared Tebow's displays fine by him. Boulder Atheists co-founder Marvin Straus doesn't follow sports closely. Still, he estimated that he has seen Tebow kneel "4,823 times" without objecting. "From my perspective, it's about as useful as an amulet during the Black Plague. But if I have the right to stand up in public and say there's no gods or devils or heaven or hell, he has the right to kneel in public, as long as he doesn't insist that other people join him," Straus said. "Somebody that's on a private team wants to express his religious belief? To me, that's called freedom of religion."

It would be pretty strange to start squawking about prayer in sports at this time. Latin players have been crossing themselves in the batter's box during baseball games for as long as I can remember. Muhammad Ali praised Allah after every fight. NFL players have been having prayer circles after games for decades. When Tebow sits in these circles, he's just another guy; I have yet to see him lead the prayers.

Discordant Peach: "OK, there's a huge article in the WSJ about him, why we can't discuss him here is ridiculous. Broncos (under TT) are now tied with first in the AFC WEST. COME ON! THIS BEGS DISCUSSION" As I recall, Peach, in the original "Tim Tevo" thread, you started it because you were miffed that regular programming was being pre-empted by the goings-on in the Broncos locker room after the game. And wanting to know if others were upset by the same thing. (And pardon me in advance if I'm misconstruing or mis-resurrecting (not to be viewed as a religious hint; just a simple pun!) your (lost) comments; I'm trying to portray them faithfully.) So now I find it amusing that it "BEGS DISCUSSION". 1. How heated is the Tim Tevo discussion thread on your private board? 2. I do find it good that somehow this has sparked some interest and learning on your part about football. And yet you obviously are never going to put it up on sort of pedestal, either. Good balance.
