I did say in the original thread that the Big Bang Theory episode I was watching was interupted to cut to the Bronco locker room where Tebow was being interviewed and then I remember saying something to the affect that instead of the Big Bang Theory I was in church on Sunday...something like that before it was deleted because I said the word church or Sunday...

What a great question. PatsFan is a far better expert on pro football as well as the Patriots, but I'll give you my flawed opinion. I think the Broncos will lose this one, and probably by a bunch. The Patriots have a potent offense and will give the outstanding Denver defense no quarter. Even though NE has a leaky defense, Denver has trouble scoring against the worst defenses. I'm guessing that New England will score 21 points before the Broncos put any points on the board. Maybe a 21-3 score at half time. That's far too much for The Denver Tebows to overcome in the four quarter, and that will be that. As always, if the Broncos can hold the score down, then we can possibly see a Denver miracle once again. But, I doubt it.

Buzz, I assure you, I'm not all that knowledgeable. I think the Pats will capitalize on Tebow's weaknesses, but our defense could be stronger. I think that'll be fairly matched. I think our offense will be decent, resulting in a win for Brady. However, I think all games the pats play are gonna be tough ones !

That was a fun game to watch, lots of sloppiness (sloppiness is fun) and high scoring. I tuned in when the Broncos were leading so I was blown away. Is the Tebow phenomena over? I hope. Great SNL skit, I went to church and OF COURSE, the sermon was about Elway's reluctance to fall for Tebow completely, in fact the pastor just shortened it to "Elbow" vs the Brady Bunch. I might have been the only parishioner to roll my eyes. I don't know.

My cousin's husband posted on FB about an editorial where Tebow was listed among the 15 most decisive athletes of all time. Seriously??? In New England, we are pretty private about our religion. It isn't something I particularly care to see all the time, but neither am I offended. I am stunned that the author posted such BS! Divisive!?

PatsFan -- He is divisive; top 15 of all time? Not so sure about that, but if you watched the various talking head shows on sports networks when Tebow first took over as starting QB, those who were predicting his failure did so with great enthusiasm. Not just that he had mechanical problems in his passing, but that they truly despised him as a person. It was odd. At the same time, to watch people embrace him and cheer for him only because he prays openly during games is equally bizarre. You know the answer to these, PatsFan: Who is the best quarterback in the league who is either a rookie or in their second year (like Tebow)? Is it Tebow? Is Tebow the best running qb in the league? Is Tebow the best player on the Broncos? A lot of the harsh feelings toward him are because people feel the attention given to him as a player is undeserved.

I've been pondering the concept of 15 divisive sports figures, and I have trouble getting to 15. Here's a list, not in any order: --Muhammad Ali (draft, conversion to Islam) --Mike Tyson (criminal behavior) --Pete Rose (betting on baseball games) --Miami Heat's Big Three (too much self promotion) --Howard Cosell (I'm stretching to call him a sports figure, but according to Time Magazine he was at the same time the most popular and most despised sports broadcaster) --Ty Cobb (complete b@st@rd) -- Barry Bonds (performance enhancing drugs) After that, I've got nothing. And, no, Tebow is not on my list.

Good find, bil. I get the impression this guy decided he needed to go beyond 10 but really didn't have 15. Vick was an easy one that I missed, and so was McEnroe. Rodman wasn't all that divisive, he was just a loon. He was a talented disruption much in the vein of Ocho Cinco, Randy Moss, and T.O. Iverson? Bryant? I just don't get it. Ronaldo? No way. Paul Gascoigne? Who is that? Even after I read the article, I was left ambivalent to that one. The bottom line here is that if you push the list so hard that you include Kobe Bryant, Ronaldo, and Lance Armstrong, then you'll find a place for Tebow. But, he should have stopped at about 6.

We seem to be listing athletes in recent history and also not considering those athletes that were divisive not for character flaws but for going against the feelings of the times. Let me suggest Jim Bouton, who wrote baseball's first tell all book which became a best seller and got him effectively black-balled from the game he loved. Then go back many many years in boxing and add Jack Johnson, the first well known heavy weight champion of African American descent. Then remember Jackie Robinson, who became a joiner but who's entrance into baseball may have been the most divisive act in all of American sports. Let's not forget Hank Aaron who received so much hate mail and threats when on the verge of breaking Babe Ruth's career home run record that he required FBI protection. Just another viewpoint.

"The Irish named fella..." LOL. Paddy O'Reilly? Father Flanagan? You must mean Mark McGwire. And many, many more. There were so many who benefited from the steroid, human growth hormone, and other enhancers that people are less shocked. I don't see Armstrong as a divisive figure at all. I have not heard anyone get all red-faced about him the way I've seen with Pete Rose or OJ Simpson.

Time for another Crusade! Bill Maher insulted Tim Tebow: ======= Bill Maher Takes Heat Over Tim Tebow Tweet Even in defeat, Tim Tebow creates controversy -- this time in Tinseltown. HBO's Bill Maher created a firestorm over the Christmas weekend with a scathing reaction to Tebow's subpar performance in Buffalo. Shortly after Tebow threw four interceptions in the Broncos' lopsided defeat to the Bills, Maher turned to his Twitter page to poke fun at the very religious NFL star. (And a warning: Maher's tweet includes harsh language and divisive references.) "Wow, Jesus just [screwed] #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere ... Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler "Hey, Buffalo’s killing them," Maher tweeted. ...more... ======== So, people who find amusing all this Jeebus-Tebow stuff should be boycotted? Meh. No great loss.

Not wanting to make a big deal out of it, but as a (generally) "progressive" (liberal in some things, but far from all), I must say that Maher is the kind of person that gives "our" side a very bad rap. With friends like that, who needs enemies? He has a good sense of humor, but the underlying current too often is a mean and bitter streak that makes him hard to listen to.

Maher likes to stand on the sidelines and heckle everyone. We all deserve it, but I get the strong impression that he stands for absolutely nothing. He is most definitely not a self-described progressive; he defines himself as libertarian. Having been a libertarian in my immediate post-conservative phase, my opinion is that he's a pretty lousy libertarian.

Well, this has strayed too far towards you-know-what, but I sorta think the same thing. I can see libertarian stances, to the extent I pay attention to him (not a whole lot, actually), but I've always thought of him as mostly a liberal. To bring it back on topic, I'm guessing Tebow would consider him a liberal, too.

Never a dull moment over at CNN.com.... they ran a poll about whether or not you'd like to live near Tim Tebow. The choices were a) next door; b) same street; c) same city; d) not in the same state. What a horrible poll. At the moment, "next door" is leading, but a 34% of the voters don't want him living in their state. Tip o'the hat to CNN for throwing gasoline on the fire.
