Subject: I'm going to try this again: Tim Tebow

Here's one for you, poptart. I quit watching the Broncos for one full season while this clown was destroying my team. Maybe Belichik is a genius; and, maybe this will be his first major gaffe. ========== Patriots' signing of QB Tim Tebow could be coach Bill Belichick's latest masterstroke Leave it to the arbiter of conventional wisdom to punch conventional wisdom squarely in the jaw. Every so-called expert in the NFL said Tim Tebow couldn't make it in the NFL. He can't throw. He can't learn an offense. He can't fall in line. And of course, there was the circus! Think of the circus! That was the conventional wisdom, until just after 5 p.m. ET Monday afternoon, when reports surfaced that Tebow was going to the New England Patriots to play for the originator of so much of the wisdom in the NFL: Bill Belichick. It's a copycat league, and the league has been trying to copy Belichick for years. Ask the franchises who have hired former Patriots assistant coaches Josh McDaniel, Eric Mangini, Romeo Crennel, Scott Pioli, and Charlie Weis. Everyone wants to be just like Belichick, and nobody has been able to do it. That's because Belichick has always gone directly opposite of where all the so-called experts stand. He gave Corey Dillon a shot. He gave Randy Moss a shot. He gave a former rugby player, Nate Ebner, a shot. And now he's giving Tebow a shot when every other team had weeks to bring him in. ---more--- ========== With the Colts as my adopted team, I will watch this unfold with great interest.

Shame that the Broncos were being destroyed by a QB that took them into the AFL league playoffs. Oh yeah, you forgot to mention that. Not bad for a 2nd year player who pretty much filled the Broncos stadium, with people wanting to watch the TeBow fenom. Just a shame that the Jets didnt do anything with him, but had him 6 out of 8 passes while the Sanchez couldnt do anything. Yes, this could be an intersting year, and possibly that the Bow could be receiving more than passing, but then options will be more available also.

I'm still trying to get my mind around how the Broncos managed to time-warp back into a 60's playoff game. Place looked way too big for an Arena... It's possible Belichick hired him as a temporary "arm" to work through training camp with the outside possibility he could become useful as a back-up during the season. Many QB "arms" are cut during and after training camps, after the scads of rookie receivers and backs have departed.

How can you say Tebow was worse, when he didnt get a chance other than throwing 6 out of 8 completed passes. Seems that 75% is rather high compared to some other QB's. I think that the Jets were chicken for not using Tebow more since we know that the Jets are located in New Jersey. So Sanchez failed , if the Jets fail again, Ryan might be looking for a new job. And Tebow will be on a winning team, if the Patriots win a superbowl, that would be some justice to those that didnt believe.

I know he's not a little guy like Welker. But think he will fill the void for some our dedicated PatsFans? (I note that he hasn't even been given a number yet, even though the Pats are selling 4 different versions of his name-only jerseys. With no guarantee he will even be with the team in October. Half would probably keep them as curios, but half might wash their cars with them, if that comes to pass...

Not to carry past discussions over here. I have in the past explained that, as do many others, I comment on ironic errors, not the run-of-the-mine typos and spelling errors. Otherwise, over there at least, every other post would be poking fun at somebody's lack of perfection in typing. Beginning with my own, of course. My typing is where typos (not mis-spellings) go to die. But even over there, it's not much of an issue anymore. He doesn't visit the No-Abuse P&R Board (except to copy-and-paste my material into his own board) and most of us don't bother even reading his "Real Americans" board. (I only check into threads that include my own name or that of another regular of the No-Abuse Board-- Like the "poptart you puppet" one.) Other than that, no actual interaction between the 3 regulars over there and the group at the No-Abuse Board, where we seem to take kidding in a more positive spirit.

There were many reasons, well-documented, for the Pittsburgh playoff loss at Mile High (beginning with Ryan Clark's cycle cell disease that cause him to miss the game, and the massive Pittsburgh injury list that got worse as the game wore on. I recall commenting during the first half that the Patriots must be licking their chops thinking about entertaining the maimed Steelers in Foxboro. But what happened? A great receiver turned a short pass (negative yards, if I recall correctly) into a long TD run after a catch. To win the game. It was heart-breaking to watch, but frankly, none of us had any hopes about beating the Pats that year. More likely, the Steelers would have lost by 30 points at best. You might recall that the Broncos barely managed to squeak into the playoffs with an 8-8 record that was far worse than many teams in other divisions that stayed home. But no matter. They got in, and the Steelers went home. And the Pats totally dominated the Tebows from the opening bell the next week. 45-10 and it could have been worse. John Elway, he wasn't.

Yes Tebow beat your steelers, i revelled in that, and hoped that the Broncos would of won over the Pats. But now a true Patriot has joined the Patriots, and you can bet there will be many who will watch the team just to see Tim.

That is why i left that board. Even here instead of debating about Tebow, you point out i said AFL not AFC, typical of you to do that in a round about way. I thought that was already known... I sort of hope it works out for him. Belichick is enough of an iconoclast that he's not afraid of breaking the mold just to see what happens. I think it's WAY too early to tell if this experiment, or maybe experiment*s*, will work out. It's been fairly clear that unless something were to drastically improve, Tebow's chances of making it in the NFL are greater as a TE than as a standard, pro-type QB. Imagine him lined up as a TE, or just off the line in the slot; all kinds of possibilities, with an occasional option setup or something just to screw with the defense and keep them off-balance. I think it's fun just to think about those possibilities, and if I were a defensive coordinator, I know I wouldn't be looking forward to trying to defend the myriad of potentialities he brings to the field. And notice I said "potentialities" - which is all they are at this point.

exactly, TN. and from what I understand, there's really no risk for trying him out. I can't imagine he'd get much QB play... unless Brady got hurt. There's been talk for weeks about Gronk's back...

Trouble is, he'd be no more than a sub-par to decent tight end; doesn't have the size or strength to be a great blocker, nor the quickness to be a go-to receiver type, nor the hands, nor has shown any route running ability (though who really knows, there). Similar arguments for Tebow as a running back or an H back or a linebacker or any position in today's NFL. As a general football player, he's a great one. In this league of specialists, he hasn't got a specialty.

I think he *could* be a decent blocker. I remember seeing him lay some people out in college. But of course that's college. SEC, but still not quite the same. He's got quite decent speed, I think, for a TE. But, indeed, as you say, it's far from clear that he can develop any specialty that will make him worth keeping. But if anyone can make a place for him, maybe it would be Belichick. Or maybe he and Belichick will together prove that such highly-specialized types aren't always the best answer. I don't know - just think it'll be fun to watch them try.

Spirituality should have nothing to do with football... as long as you can be a professional, it's not an issue for me, either way.

Thanks for the mention of Tim Tebow on subjectline Buzzclik. have been offline for awhile and am thrilled literally to see Belichick in action again. was afraid he was discouraged or baffled. not so eh? as you can probably guess I am a big Patriots fan. I love their "play their hearts out" attitude and the wonderful ability they seem to show playing for the patriots and lucky NE fans. I appreciate them win or lose because they give us their best. (with a major exception named ocho, who is no longer there for obvious reasons.) sorry soap box!! anyway I think it will be exciting to see what will happen next. I like to see what will happen rather than predict. predicting sort of locks people in a box and that's no fun. go Football forever!!

One issue that continue to stick out as unofficial asterisks that can't be quantified is the video-taping issues. ("Spygate" Did they really beat the Rams fair and square, or did they have a little too much information to analyze on the Rams game plans? How about the AFC playoffs games, including the Steelers and some other strong teams? "Bellicheat" will be at the back of people's minds for a while to come. But no matter. The record books will remain the record books. Just how good is Bellichick, a "football genius," without hidden cameras? He hasn't been all that successful in the playoffs as of late, for example.

that is why I said I thought he was discouraged or something. I think it may have been grief. The ability during a game though comes through. sometimes people who have great ability are despised because of it. All of the coaches have the same machinery to do with as they please. what is sad and I hate to watch it is the determination to destroy the great players in all sports. I watched players destroy Bobby Orr in a concerted effort. Crossed sticks in front of him when he was carrying the puck so he would fall on his knees, over and over again. retired at 26. one of the greatest players in history beautiful to watch and loved the game, ruined so he couldn't play again. How about the destruction of Gronk, and Welker, during the super bowl. It was constant. anyone who objectively can watch that game can see it happen. Watch the hand come out from under Brady's leg after the play that ruined him for a year. It isn't just the patriots it is any truly great player and it is something that needs to be stopped. I was wondering if that is what was meant by bounty that NO was in trouble for.

One shining example for me is Mario Lemieux. He was barraged so badly that he lost great chunks of his career. It went well beyond "clutching and grabbing!" Clutching and grabbing prevented one-on-ones and many goals. But the continuous abuse resulted in his bad back. Possibly the greatest of all time, but most put him behind Gretsky. How would he be remembered had he been able to play those full seasons? Especially had he played before or after the clutching and grabbing defenses?
