Subject: WHY NO RESPONSE FROM DEVELOPERS ??

So, why wasn't this problem fixed last night? Why is it so hard to communicate with the developers? Is this site important to them or not?

It's not a "professional" site. More of a hobby, with any profits donated to charity. There is an option to pay for an ad-free environment, those users might have a small cause to complain but the rest of us freeloaders can't and shouldn't! Except when moderators remove my highly amusing postings that is...

I read the "problems" section but that suggestion didn't work. Probably because it's not my browser problem but a system wide problem. We'll just have to wait for Denny to check in.

Right on the money, was03. The game is free, uses way too much of my time, and I hold Denny to a different standard than if I was paying the big bucks for this vice. But I have to admit I was a little down when I found it wasn't working...:)

I've been a paid and loyal subscriber to Freecell for years. Generally, it is great site. In the past the developers have generally responded to problems in a timely and professional manner with some kind of posting themselves as to what the problem is and an estimate fix time. This time I haven't notice any type of response from the developers. Are they on vacation? As with other professional sites, service is golden. Mess with service and loyalty to the brand is likely to suffer.

Well ddoss you should know by now that this is basically a one-man (Denny) site. Maybe he is on vacation, or his day job is taking all his time, or his kids are sick. Whatever it is, Murphy's law dictates that if there are going to be problems it will be while Denny is not logging in. So the cognoscenti find other things to do, or fill up the discussion board with gripes and rebuttals. Can you really find nothing else to do until Denny gets back? If so I really feel sorry for you. Now, of course if it is not fixed by Team Tournament day, Thursday, then we may really have problems!!! But will brand loyalty suffer significantly? I seriously doubt it. This site is just too much fun. ;)

No need to feel sorry for me and no need to get personal. Web sites and people should not pretend to be what they are not. I feel that loyalty to a product, website, or anything else is a two way street. I enjoy Freecell, especially while I multitask, but if the developers aren't concerned about their product, why should I be. The acronym YAHOO is always appropriate: You Always Have Other Options. -- and I do. The above should be something the developers should be thinking about since we are now going on 24 hours with no solution in sight to the current problem.

Question: Why do you keep saying 'the developers' as if this were a professionally run site after numerous people have pointed out to you there IS NO STAFF OF DEVELOPERS. It's just Denny. Personally I'm in awe of how professional-looking and mostly trouble-free this site is, when you consider that fact. Quit your whining like you are shelling out big bucks (or any at all) for what you are getting.

Three possible scenarios: 1. Denny is out of touch for some reason and is unaware of the problem. 2. He knows and simply does not care. 3. He is working diligently on a fix and would rather spend his free time fixing the problem rather than responding to a bunch of obsessive/compulsive freecell addicts. There is at least some chance that fixing the problem could flush a whole lot of streaks. He may be trying to find a way to reset our play to some hours before the problem arose. I strongly suggest we chill and let the man do his work.

Without freecell I've cleaned, gave the dog a bath, watched as all the cats took off in a dead run out the door because each one thought he was next. The female cat I caught, she got her bath. I've even checked out new paint colors for the kitchen (yep, thinking about painting again). I've watched a thunderstorm; pretty cool really. I've also rearranged the kitchen cabinets as the tupperware cabinet was a complete mess. I've played video games with my 19 y/o daughter (yeah, I sucked at all the games we played). If Freecell isn't up and working by this evening, I'll watch the baseball game. Just hope it's up by Thursday, I really do like those team tournament days. Enjoy the day folks, take a walk, go for a ride. Do something...Denny will have this site back up and running before you know it. Ann13

I have logged on 3 times in the last day and a half and nothing has annoyed me more than reading ddoss posts. He/she apparently is one of those people devoid of empathy or simply likes to annoy/criticize others, or both. Ddoss you previously stated that we shouldn't get personal but your "developer" criticisms are directed at Denny and are as personal as you can get. As has been pointed out to you several times already, and that you conveniently ignore, is Denny doesn't run this for a profit and he has a job and family. The vast majority of us realize this and don't complain. We also understand that it is the relatively few complainers who can ruin things for the rest of us so I request you look up empathy and try it out.

Buck, I hadn't looked at his Facebook page before but I see it's not unusual for him to be sporadic - burst of activity for a few days, nothing for a few days. Do you suppose there's any chance he came east for whatever reason with the plan of making a surprise appearance at Cellstock? I was surprised when he showed up to the one in 2005. Though I suppose libby must have known, so I guess you would probably know too.

I miss playing too and am a little bored following the critical comments but I for one will give Denny the benefit of the doubt and assume he is doing something more important than we obviously are right now.

Denny proudly, and rightly so, notes that Freecell has been going since 1996 and is one of the best sites around. It is. It is also a professional site in that it takes money from advertisers and premium subscribers. Even as a one-man show, service is a premium and as is loyalty to a product. By not posting even any kind of notice of the product seems to be taking his users for granted. Poor service is the fastest way to destroy what has taken years to create. I general tend to stay away from discussion boards because there are those out there who can do nothing make personal attacks on people who they no nothing about. Before making personal attacks perhaps you need to rethink your life. My life is pretty full and fulfilling.

I think a much more reasonable use of 'professional' is that it intends to and does make money for the operator. Denny makes enough money to cover expenses, and if there is any laeft over it gets donated to charity. >>Even as a one-man show, service is a premium and as is loyalty to a >>product. Gee, I've been here 13 years and I think this is the first time I've ever seen or been affected by glitches/bugs/down time. Yes, I do pay the premium to avoid the ads (extremely worth it!) and I am missing the freecell. I've checked in probably 10 times today. The large defense corporation where I work has a whole sector of employees devoted to IT for the rest of the company. I've been waiting for one of them, I don't care which, to do something to my work station for weeks. I consider the service Denny provides to be outstanding. Show me another site ran by one person that's been around this long...

My suggestion to anyone who is disatisfied with the service that they are getting from this site is to find some other FREE site to use & GET OUT. Denny does a GREAT job supporting this site (at no cost to the users, except for no-advertising, that goes to charity). I miss being able to play the different forms of freecell on this site too, but Denny does have a family and a job that are a HIGHER priority than this site. I am amazed at all the things he does for this site. In fact, just the idea that a problem like this is a SHOCK to the users is a tribute to how well the site functions normally. P.S., I'm also amazed how many people opened up a new discussion window to report having a problem, than to just add an input to the existing one(s).

I don't think anyone's upset or dissatisfied with Denny; most know he's a one man operation. Grateful for having it work as long as it did. I've really enjoyed playing freecell here. No one else has all these variations. My favorite ended up being the slurpee game. The other sites out there? Can't compete with this one, not at all. I posted this on another thread for desperadoes out there; after this site, you'll probably try it once & never return.
