I'm not sure if Bruce Springsteen or Southside Johnny wrote this song. Here it is with them both, so very long ago, when Little Steven was actually little, and Clarence the Big Man didn't have his sax. Awesome song from some Jersey boys.

The Pointer Sisters recorded on their "Priority" album and Bruce is credited with writing the song.

I looked up an old Pointer Sisters performance of that, and got so bored I clicked out before it got to a minute. Southside Johnny's I could listen to all day. I've seen the E Street Band perform it, with Southside Johnny, in this century. Still not sure who wrote it.

By the way, that's Soozie Tyrell in the SCTV video, singing backup next to Patti Scialfa. Soozie later because the violinist for the E Street Band, and Patti married the Boss. You might also recognize the trombone player "La Bamba" from late night tv's Max Weinberg Seven. Recognize anyone else?

Of course, Fallon and Timberlake have done the skit (with different guests) many times; their chemistry is fantastic. The appearance of Barry at the end was a bit of a shocker, but true to Fallon's style. Barry these days has aged into looking more like a younger Maurice.

The appearance of Barry was not a shocker. He was on the show. It would be a shock if he *didn't* appear in the BGTS segment. I'd call it more of a "delight" when he showed up at the end after they made you forget he was there. It was super special because he lost Robin the year before, and now is the sole surviving Brother Gibb. It was super special because he was giving his seal of approval. It was super special because he can *still* hit those high falsettos much higher than Fallon or Timberlake can. Madonna being on the BGTS was no biggie, IMO. *feh* ...

BTW BC, I don't happen to agree with your last post. So why don't you do the legwork and prove it. I recall Don Pardo announcing all the guests, while wondering how old Don is now. So prove me wrong. I don't have the inclination right now.

Pardo's introductions start at about 5:00. No mention of Gibb, and no Paul McCartney, either (special, surprise appearance during Fallon's monologue). However, both McCartney and Gibb are on stage during the close (at 53 minutes). I watched the show during the original broadcast, and that's why I knew this to be true. Clearly, you did not. Were you unaware that full SNL episodes were available for streaming and that they are really, really easy to find? Legwork, indeed.

Anywho.... Here's some music from the past done quite recently in a very old style. Bryan Ferry, of Roxy Music fame, recently put together an album called the Jazz Age, and some of this (and similar pieces) were used in the sound track of The Great Gatsby. One quite notable song is Ferry's "Love is the Drug" recast in a vintage jazz context.

Clarification - My mind keeps going back and forth between "Barry Gibb Talk Show" and the "Like a Rolling Stone" Dylan video that Buzz posted. But moreso the "Barry Gibb Talk Show". Which reminds me of how that silly SNL Christmas song that Fallon, Sanz, Morgan, and Kattan did about 4 or so different times, can keep sticking in your mind for a while. Here's just one version of it. The first time or two they did it, I really didn't like it, but somehow the cheesiness of it grew on me... (Seems like some of the other, later times they may have had some guest stand-ins?)
