LOL. My point, again, is why go to that much trouble, and assemble all that talent, and then 'ruin' it with a lip-sync? It's just very, very bad form. IMO.

not quite that bad... The lenny video is a lip/instrument sync of a studio recording.... obviously staged

To me.....that's only a distinction of degree - both are total failures of authenticity.

Seriously? The lenny video promotes his song. 'Official Video'... get it? That other ABC thing is a lame gala event production

This is hardly a new theme for TN. He is pretty particular about how musicians he sees in concert perform their music (and how the music is mixed), and he is no fan of “performance” videos. If he sees a video of a band, he wants it to be a recording of a live performance. TN and I overlap fairly strongly in the music and performances we like, but I have a bit more tolerance of musical “entertainment”. The Kravitz vid was fine with me, even though I am not a fan.

@ cellmate - totally seriously. Being an "official video" in no way excuses that. In fact, an "official video" should best represent what an artist can actually do - 'unencumbered' - not some massaging of reality. @ outskirts - yes, but realized very, very quickly that it was 80-90% trash, or at least 'unworthy' as Wayne and Garth would say. It was 'novel' for what, a month or two? Later on, the unplugged stuff was honest and authentic, but those were brief respites.

I *do* however, 'allow' for the existence of music videos as an art form. Clearly there are scads of very creative examples of that. What makes the Kravitz example so offensive (slightly too strong a characterization) is that it wants to purport to be a real performance. But it's only 1 level above Milli Vanilli in my book.

This song is about 10 days old. I had the pleasure seeing it in a tiny, basement jazz club the second time it was performed. I mentioned Sarah Sharp in the "old music" thread for her cover of "Scotch and Soda." She writes a bit, and her songs can be fun and creative. This one is a bit of a love ballad. Sarah takes on a somewhat whispery approach to this song, but she has a full and beautiful voice.

For those who happened to be watching Farm Aid on Saturday, we were treated to a surprise set with Bob Dylan, Mike Campbell, (old buddy who dated my bff), with some Dirty Knobs (Mike's band now) and some Heartbreakers, (Mike's old band), joining Bob on stage for a trilogy of the best songs of Bob's that they could have picked. Messy but wonderful 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Benmont Tench (old Heartbreaker from Gville) on keyboards 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 It was only through a simple twist of fate that I was watching.

Farm Aid was streamed on YouTube and broadcast on the circle network, where I was watching. Circle reran it Sunday afternoon. They well might run it again, check your listings. On the rerun yesterday the girl hosting did a short intro on cards like subterranean homesick blues right after the commercial break. It didn't say who but the card thing was a dead giveaway. It went right into the performance after that little obvious clue. I had missed that the night before.

Benmont. If you think that's a strange name, well it's a combo of his first and middle names. Benjamin, and an even stranger name. But he comes by it honestly, because he is the third. A building downtown bears the family name at the top!

I'm sure I met him in passing, but don't remember. Lol

This was just posted 2 days ago, and it's a good recording.  Not earth-shattering in its novelty, as there must be 50 versions of Doc doing this, but not sure I've ever heard him and Taj together - at least not that I can remember at the moment.  Keyboards unattributed ("Butch"? - don't know who that'd be).  More of a slice of history, but a very nice one:

Took another deep dive into a concert of old music by an aging artist. This time it was Wynonna Judd and her Big Noise Band. I am somewhat familiar with her work, mostly as part of The Judds. She has an amazingly powerful voice and a fun stage presence. Her band was quite capable, especially her keyboard player and guitarists. Her bassist, dude on the Hammond, and drummer were solid. Her audience ranged over generations, and they were crazy for her. She had no warmup band but took a 20 minute intermission. She seemed to be performing all of her huge hits, because the audience knew every word. It was a good time.

============

When she finished her second encore, her drummer (and husband) took it upon himself to carry on with a 5-minute drum solo. He's good, but not that kind of good.
