I have pondered this question for most of my life: WHY does there have to BE a favorite? I've always been asked "What is your favorite _____?" Oh, you mean I have to pick one? So, I picked one of these, and one of those, and one of that, and one of them. But REALLY in all honesty and truth, I HAVE NO FAVORITES.

I have been through almost all the colors of the rainbow throughout my lifetime, as "favorites". Except orange. And red. Not that I don't like orange and red, I like them very much. Sheesh. Why do I have to pick?

It is the nature of mankind to want to ordinate - to apply mathematical relationships to things. And to the male 49+% (moreso than the rest of humanity), to see how far one can throw something, see how fast one can run, etc. Thus, the concepts of "most", "fastest", "furthest", etc........and ultimately "best", by applying numbers to things. But....I see your point and appreciate it. Thus we have artists.

You MUST have a favorite "everything" EXCEPT Heaven forbid you ever have a favorite child. That is a NO NO. I said my favorite Beatle was Ringo. Why? Because you HAD to have a favorite. But I loved them all equally. The "best" Beatle (not Pete) was probably George, Paul, Ringo, or John.

One of my favorites, comedian/filmmaker, was Harold Ramis. Who could forget Ghostbusters, Stripes, Groundhog Day. Sad to learn he passed away today.

But Dr.X's question remains, other than my attempt at an answer: why (must there be one)? Surely my answer didn't completely solve her curiosity.
