Subject: Stream of Consciousness: a thread that cannot be hijacked

The previous thread with the same name met its demise at the hand of a moderator drunk with power ... or something. Anyway, it's death was not intentional, so I'm bringing it back. I discovered the disappearance of the thread while looking for this: Stephen Colbert: “You say that science says we shouldn't have both sides of the debate. We can’t have, for instance, people who say the earth is round and then bring on Flat Earthers, too. Don’t you want to be fair and balanced?” Neil deGrasse Tyson: “That would be a waste of everyone’s time. Once science has been established, a scientific truth emerges from a consensus of experiments and observations. It is the way of the world. When different experiments give you the same result, it is no longer subject to your opinion. It’s true whether or not you believe in it! That’s why science works. ...We live in a country that guarantees your right to free speech, but it is not a country that guarantees that anything you say is correct.”

I may have inadvertently deleted that thread, but I can't say for sure. If so, my bad. May have been a finger-twitch as I was moving from tab to tab. As Buzz pointed out to me, the thread still exists in the archives. Perhaps Denny has a way to paste it in. I could try, but I am not sure about pasting a 5-page thread. Usually, I don't even come in, in Mod Mode, and if something needs accomplished, like removing duplicates or what-not, I have to go back out and come back in as an Admin.

I would argue that a stream of consciousness could be lost, or interrupted, and that a discussion thread about said stream might be of aid in recovery of said stream. Not that said stream was *worthy* of recovery; I'm just sayin'......

Serious question to BuzzClik: If you have no use for my "ridiculous posts", as you stated in deleted thread, along with calling this poster several ridiculous names - Then why do you jump on them with such voracity? Bored much? Or just looking for someone to blame your hate on? Think about it.

As an aside, and for those who didn't happen to be watching the exchange, the thread deleted earlier today was one I originated in 2008, before the current "politics" rules came into effect. It was updated today, and started argument. So, it being quite "political" and serving no use to today's board, I deleted it after giving notice. Carry on. (By the way, there has been some behind-the-scenes discussion about banning certain folks, their nicks and their IP's...) Not close to that yet.

A lot of people think that "get it" is the same as "agree with it". It's as if they think, the only reason the other person doesn't agree with me is they just don't understand. I've seen this on the Internet and in real life countless times. The two are not the same.

Interesting, joeygray. When I hear this get it phrase, I think it's often an attempt at persausion. The obvious use like, "you just don't get it, do you?", which sounds like a put down. Or the more suttle usage like, "I do get it", implying that those who hold a different belief don't understand. These are nothing but an attempt to knock the conversation off it's current track. Of course there'd be friendly usages.

An update on my limited tv watching habits: From the now missing thread: "Dexter vs 24 vs Breaking Bad: I don't watch much network tv ... 'not much' as in 'none.' But, I heard great things about these three series. Yes, they weren't on the big broadcast networks, but you get my point. Anyway, I decided to put my toe in the water for Dexter, and was immediately addicted. I watch every episode of every season in about 3 weeks. Every free moment would find me gazing at the show. It was an amazing exploration. It got kinda tired in the middle seasons, but it made a fantastic comeback for the final two seasons. 24 was highly recommended, but I was disappointed. It was formulaic, poorly written, melodramatic, and nothing but a ridiculous sequence of cliffhangers. I watched two full seasons and gave it up. I have watched the first three episodes of season 1 of Breaking Bad -- OMG! Guess what I'll be doing during my lunch hours for the next few weeks... " So, I finished Breaking Bad, and it was excellent. I despised a lot of the characters, but so what? Since then I have watched the entirety of The Wire -- very good! And I watched all available episodes of House of Cards. Holy crapoli! Excellent, excellent, excellent! And, so true about Washington DC politicians, I cannot find one that I like. My new adventure is the revitalization of "Cosmos." It is so visually attractive that I will only watch it at home on my mega HD tv. And, it stimulates the brain. I highly recommend it.

So Buzz...I will be at my son's for the next 10 days. He has never had tv (cable, satellite etc.) but he does have Netflix with cable streaming, so I think I will be able to watch a few of those you mentioned. If you had one to pick...to watch entirely in 10 days, which would you recommend? They all sound good and are on my list.

Fargo is abso-freaking-lutely brilliant. Martin Freeman goes from playing the hobbit to playing a wimpish Minnesota insurance salesman. Billy-Bob Thornton is an evil manipulative villain. This is the best TV I' have seen in a very long time. The Coen brothers really have brought it all together in this.

Was watching "Pardon the Interruption" when an All State insurance ad came on. They were bragging about two awesome programs they have: 1) 95% of homeowners don't make a claim in a given year. So, All State gives you money back if you don't make a claim. Ok, I like that. 2) For the other 5%, All State offer "claim rate guard" so your rates won't go up just because you make a claim. Yeah, I REALLY love this one -- buying insurance to protect against increasing cost of insurance. Do you think All State offers "claim rate guard" to people who live in tornado alley or in hurricane ravaged areas on the Atlantic Coast?
