TN: You might be interested in this article. From the POV of the previous discussion (the idea that today’s pitchers are pussies compared to pitchers of old), the article bears out my belief that today a pitcher is throwing his best stuff all the time, and needs that pitch count protection. Gone are the days of “pitching to contact”: counting on the defense to get most of the outs. Olden-days pitchers had a lot more reach-back-for-something-extra available to them than today’s pitchers.
