While we're at it, at least one if not two of the three previous unwon games I've lost today felt winnable (3573-5, 2954-5, 31002-5).

You have to play much of the early game as a 10x0. Put the 9S in the free cell, and then, with very careful manipulation, you can clear column 4, after which it's pretty easy.

Message:That doesn't make sense. I don't have any way of checking a game's past Elo though. Maybe if you saw it after your first play and before the hourly update? But even then it shouldn't move by more than 8 points. The other factor is the level average is always moving a little, but this level has moved up a half a point in the last day or so, not down.

Technically it was unwon until I won it, though I was also the first person to ever play it. That elapsed time is an undercount by the way. I stared at it over and over again, seeing hundreds of moves but nothing that looked like a good idea. When I finally moved a card it was when I had a way to an open column. Even then it wasn’t over. Man, I hated that game.

How hard is it to understand that when you duplicate your game with a deck of cards, and your first series of moves doesn't produce a win, that is a loss. You just don't count it. How fair is that to the other players who do not use a deck of cards? It is surprising that a man of your age and experience in life can be capable of such self-deception.

Message:I agree. Being in streak mode means you have to solve the game on your first try. If you don't it should be a loss. I don't get how you can boast about your Elo score knowing it's fake and knowing that everyone else also knows it's fake. If Denny had wanted to allow multiple tries we'd have a "Back" button.

Message:Tony's name is just one of four or five I put an asterisk by and try to ignore when I look at rankings. At least he's open about his approach so I'm not left wondering. That said, I love the suggestion that he put away the cards for good and I hope he'll consider it. Better for the site and for him I think.

12th attempt. Very, very tough. I'd be astonished if anyone could get this first try. I was lucky to find the right opening quite quickly, but the next stage required several moves I found counter-intuitive and even the final stage was not obvious to me.
