Thanks roo and Kat, I looked back but not far enough. Those are fun to play. Just curious, Kat, 0300...insomnia? Or a late night with a sick patient? I understand why roo was there in mid-afternoon. Btw, I seriously miss the chat of several years ago...before all the bruh-haha over p&r. Geeze, we thought those were the controversial days...now I wouldn't be surprised to see people with hammers and chisels going after Mt. Rushmore...ah, the good ol days.

I'm not so sure that fb has stopped the chat here. I think, imo, that the old chat and it's faithful followers have moved on, aged a bit, retired and moved to greener pastures, some to the heavens above. RIP all you netcellers. It was a unique blend of nicks and a once-in-a-lifetime chemistry of personalities that made up that great group. Remember the map to the rooms? Remember how many of us, ok I admit to a time or two having a roll in the hay on the floor of a chat room, had virtual, and even some irl, flings that waxed and waned over the years. Those were the days. Not to be forgotten, all of the fun we had meeting in person at Cellstocks in different parts of the country. Remember the cereal killer who killed off, irl, a couple of good friendships? Oh well...water under the bridge... One more thing...remember the long drawn out saga that was written by several dif nicks as we went. I lol'd so many times that I woke my hubby from my den in the next room. Facebook will *never* replicate the chat that was once here. What killed it was when P&R got nasty...as Denise from Oz says "needles to say"...that was the end of an era.

Social media killed Chat, no doubt about it. It was even happening in its heyday, but not to the extent to what happened when portable desktops came along. There was Myspace and then the horrid Facebook, something I was in for about ten seconds. Thanks to buck for telling me how to get out of it. Facebook has alienated everyone who is not particularly the "party-going-touchy-feely" type nor the narcissistic "give-me-three-thousand-likes-in-the-next-sixty seconds" type. That's probably about half the population. Can't blame Denny, he had to go with the times, but the times are not going to improve. Political correctness is strangling the world. Even statues are being attacked now.

Yes, that's indeed what I meant (the eyes), outskirts. Denise and hotnurse are both married, after all, both then and now (I think). Not sure I can do the "amazing flair" though. So if "Heaven" is 'only' a planet.....why call it "Heaven"? I *guess* you could make a case for that, but..... That is way fab you're going to Rome, 'skirts. Hopefully you can get to Florence/Firenze, too. You'd actually like that better, methinks. Try to learn a bit of Italian before you go - online, or with CDs, or however. It'll enrich the experience. And refresh your art history knowledge, too, if needed.

Man, my thread has gone eclectic. Just jumping in to say Facebook is useful in another way. If you have kids scattered across the country it's a great way to keep up-to-date with their activities. I found during a recent FB search for classmates for a college reunion that many of us post very rarely but use it to keep track of family doings - new kid pictures, etc. It along with Google was also very useful for tracking down the classmates. Of course I also have some relatives who update their FB status every time they brush their teeth, so to speak, announcements of which in my e-mail are incredibly annoying.

We had the most awesome reunion, in the history of reunions, all because of fb. We were able to super-coordinate everything in our class group, planning months in advance, tracking everyone down. Nailed down the live music, decorations, and on and on. It was so awesome. We had reunions before, but that first fb one was over the top.

Kat, I totally agree about kids and family but still don't think that fb was the main cause of this chat closing. Three yrs ago I was fb chatting with two of my hs girlfriends and we decided that for our 45th reunion we would have a private party instead of joining all of the other classes who have one central reunion. I went to an all-girls Catholic school so we had t-shirts made to look like our uniform upper half (we wore navy jumpers/white blouses) and were able to gather 37 0f our class of 62 girls...class of 1969...all via fb. Now we are planning our 50th reunion and are expecting over 50 of the 59 remaining girls.

Hi, Hottie I didn't think FB was the main reason either. By the time I joined the Netcellers chat seemed to be if not dying at least tapering off and FB was not a real big thing yet. When I went on chat mostly at night oft times no one would be there. Other times talked to Dadof3 and a few others. But this thread was getting on about FB so just put in my two cents.

Ah, yes. Many good times I recall fondly the time people started talking about how irritating the Barney the Purple Dinosaur thing had become, so about 15 or so of us loaded up our virtual shootin' irons and went off as a (NetCell Chat) posse. Even Welshwitch loaded her .22 caliber. We chased Barney hither and yon until somebody actually shot him. Brought his purple carcass in (we had never actually left,, of course) and had roasted purple dinosaur for the rest of the day, and next day too, I think. A couple folks were disgusted that we would chase and shoot Barney, and that was okay, too. It was a fun activity that (most of us) enjoyed. How about the Halloween parties, where we would take on new "costume" nicks? I recall one time somebody came in as "The Lady In Red" and, of course we had to ask questions and guess who it was. I kinda changed things up, coming in as "The Lady In Black." People were expecting me to be a woman, so I had some fun with them, and of course after I laid out a couple more clues they got who I was. I just puller up the NetCell Map and it was nice to see. But then I went looking for the "Coffee House" Denny dreamed up under my name. It shows only as the Coffee House :( But when clicking on it, you get: "Room number: 79 Locator grid reference: B-C,14 Room description: You feel that you have stepped back into the 1960s as you enter Snowguy's Coffee House. Lava lamps provide most of the light, and there is a chap in the corner chanting, "Om, Om, Om...." You instinctively give the waitress the peace sign as she arrives to take your order. A rather zesty smell wafts past your nose as if to confirm that this is indeed your kind of place. You settle down contentedly on one of the cushions that cover the floor to plan your next protest march" Lots of fun. Oh, by the way, I did meet a number of people as they passed through Western Pa, including the entire MO bunch. (Family--JeffMo, FluterMo, etc.) In fact, they tried to push me into the car's trunk to go to the Cellstock with them. It was in Canada. Also met others, including Denise (dede) and Hotnurse, and even shared a dinner with them and my wife. Showed them the location used for my book, and they even watched a high school play at our local school. My wife was producer) before we could get away for the dinner. Of course, they also found some time to try out the temporary location of our Meadows Casino--now massive and a travel destination. Gotta .smile

MY rule was, and I guess is, that if a NetCeller goes through western PA (I live at the place where I-79 and I-70 meet) they don't pay for lunch. I recall meeting Ix at Quaker Steak and Lube while he was working in the area (on high phone towers, I believe,) We talked for probably three hours. Ribs, beer, and maybe hot wings, too. Because my own novel featured mining, he put me onto a book "Tomboy Bride" about a young woman in the very early 1900's who married a young mining engineer She then moved wherever he moved, with many locations in the mile-high and even higher mining camps--copper and other minerals. (Colorado, for instance) where everything pretty much froze up every winter, like the water sources. Great places to deliver and grow babies? Maybe not...! Fascinatiing book. I still have that book. I think it will be worth another read. Author, Harriet Fish Backus, if anybody is interested.
