User: Oded789: "What's the difference between this one and Joey's (much more frequent) winnable rankings?" Should we clue him in, or let him figure it out?

So you're using square roots instead of Joey's log2... Not sure which one is a better measuring tool.

It wasn't my choice. I'm just copying what free@last put in his Google spreadsheet, which was way before Joey's Competitions.

For Tony, who I think is the only person who cares about this, you can get this info at the following link.

Okay. So I do these twice a week postings after snarfing the current (has played a streak game in the last two weeks) info for the variants in question. However, in the above link, evidently the stats get read into that spreadsheet on demand. That’s an obvious improvement, seems to me, to the user experience. 0) Agreed? Better to just get the rankings any time? 1) I don’t know how to do that. Free, would you be interested in emailing me a short tutorial on what to do? 2) I see it comes from neocities, which i guess is a sort of hosting solution. But is there a data maximum we would hit if a lot more people clicked that link? Or more generally, is that sort of hosting ‘violating the terms of service’? 3) Denny, would pounding the server for 10 variants at a time on user demand, rather than the one variant at a time you graciously provide through the score page interface, be an unacceptable increase in server load? Based on the answers to the above, I’d be interested in replacing my twice-weekly posting thing.

Joey, I did that page as a test of using the JSON score stuff. I didn't put in all the bells and whistles (like comparing vs. the least update, keeping track of max score, etc.). With that in mind... 0) I think the benefit to the postings are that there are deadlines and a history of stuff, and that history is shared. My stuff is 100% done on a local computer. If the idea behind this stuff is competition, I think posting is better. 1) I could try to better comment the code, for sure. :) But you can just right click the page and download the code. It's all in the one file. Take a look and if you want, I can send some info. 2) Neocities is a free host site for static pages (which this is from Neocities point-of-view). The only traffic at neocities is downloading the page itself (maybe 20kB?). 3) I don't think enough people care about these stats to make much difference to Denny. I could space out the requests more if needed. Or block the "load" button for some amount of time.

Thanks, Jay. It's not a spreadsheet at all, it just looks like one. Or it looks like one to me, since I'm such a spreadsheet kind of guy. :) If I had just right clicked it in the first place I wouldn't have had to ask!

Tony, reload the page and then only click 'load' once. This was more a demo than intended for actual use. :)

I fixed it for you. I added a missing line to disable the load button after clicking (prevent accidental double click). And I added a line to clean things up before display new data.
