Subject: Request to add 'highest ranking' to 8x4 stats.

When I check the 8x4 rankings, I see my best streak, but I'd like to see my best ranking listed also. Probably only important to me, but it would be nice. Thanks.

Seems like it could be just another column in the 8x4 'scores' page. It could replace Avg. Time as far as I'm concerned. He may not of kept that stat in his DB, so it might be a while before it became meaningful.

I keep "best streak" for every variant. Best ranking would be problematic because ranking depends on everyone else and anyone moving can affect (or not) lots of folks below. And it's not just when someone wins or loses, it's when they go idle for 14 days. And folks rankings exist even if they're not on the lists we display. So every time someone lost an 8x4 streak I'd have to go thru all the folks who've ever played and had an active streak. I believe this would result in what us database folks call a "full table scan" which is pretty darn expensive. I could cheese and just say your best ranking is the ranking you have when you lose the streak. But I'm afraid there would be a lot of questions and stuff like "today I'm at 32 but my stats page says in only at 34! This is an outrage!!! Totally brain dead!! This should be your highest priority and should be FIXED IMMEDIATELY!!!!!"

I was thinking "highest ranking ever." So, if you were #3 for one day in 2004 (in 8x4 for example) you would still have that recorded. It would just be a quick check to if "current ranking" is higher than "highest ranking ever." If it is, change HRE. It's a dubious stat for sure...I was actually #1 for a few days many years ago, but only because the big boys were taking a break. And I'm not sure that's what Rodilator has in mind. James

JBlL, like Denny says, it doesn't just depend on you. Like right now, I happen to be top ranked in 6x5. But the day I got to my current score, near a couple of weeks ago now, I wasn't. So in order to record this fact, Denny would have to scan *everybody* any time anybody loses. Like he says, that's getting expensive.

Joey, I don't get it. When the page has you as number three (say) then somewhere some field has you as number three. So if someone loses and now you are now number two, somewhere some field got changed to reflect that. Can't there be a simple statement when that happens to check if it's a new HRE? As for which stat, I was thinking Current streak. All time seems to already be doing this, so no need. But again...not really my idea. James
