I usually play by clicking source cell and destination cell.

U or u is a nice shortcut for sending home. You don't have to click the correct suit. Clicking anywhere in home cells area also works.

But you have to type correctly A/a B/b C/c ... when sending to freecells. That's distracting for me that's why I don't use keyboard interface.

Can there be another shortcut key for sending to first available freecell similar to U/u?

Say Z/z. It selects the first available leftmost freecell if any and sends the card (already selected as the source card) there. If there can and while at it, adding another one instead of (or besides) U/u say X/x (next to Z/z) would be ergonomic.

OK I'm right-handed and Z and X selection may not be that good for a left-handed person.

I've thought about the single "move to open cell" thing before. My rationale was always that the decision to use a freecell is a pretty important one and I didn't want an easy way to fumble that. But then I also don't want an "are you sure" thing. So my compromise is that you have to explicitly specify the move.

I welcome suggestions but I prefer to not add special play modes. Maybe just upper case Z only? That way they gotta press shift (or the dreaded caps lock needs to be on). Or upper case 6 which on a US keyboard would be ^.

i'm ok with a "move to open cell" as discussed here past message re keyboard input

i'd use 'y' for cells and and 'u' for aces... y to the left and u to the right

Shift+z is very convenient. They are very close and would be easy to type. How about X instead of U/u.

I don't use U/u because it's not convenient for me. But I would definitely use shift+x.

Interesting cellmate. I remember your thread but I couldn't find it so I started this one. Appears that I also suggested the z key there. But Denny has a point against it as stated there. However shift+z wouldn't be so accidental and may be the solution.

give it a try sometime... left hand on the mouse, right hand on the keypad (numlck on). don't give up too easy. feels natural for freecell once the keypad is fully mapped to 13 and + for cells and enter for aces
