Our old family homestead is one short block off hwy 41. I often refer to it as the road the Allman Brothers made famous in the song Ramblin' Man. Betts wrote that song. In the 70s I had a neighbor who played it full blast nonstop so much it just about put me off the Allmans. It did put me off apartment living! It was then that I knew. RIP Dicky Good song. Great player.

My best friend and I at one time dated best friend pig farmers Dicky and Ricky. Good times. Then she was seeing Mike Campbell and I had to put up with Tom Petty.

We went to Atlanta for spring break and got lost going to a concert featuring the Allman Brothers. It was 1971 and we missed it Duane died later that year.

Are you saying you dated Dickie and Petty ?

Dickie born in 43 and Petty in 1950.

How'd that work ?

You must have stories to tell.

No I didn't date Dickey Betts. He wasn't a pig farmer that I know of.

Petty and Campbell, yes

Until we can get The_Interpreter and/or The_Revelator back in the saddle............here's just a couple of past tidbits.  There are more:

"Honestly, I knew T. (Don't Wanna Live Like a Refugee) Petty when he lived over a laundromat.

"Well, it's true I did know Tom Petty. But he was a nobody then, not famous at all.

Just to clarify (not "mansplain"), I am not harassing or criticizing outskirts.  Just trying to fill in some of the info she often leaves out - in this case for JackStraw.  And so no, "Dicky" does NOT = "Dickey".

Screaming Strat.......those guys are terrific technical players, of course...............but *to my ears*, it's nearly sterile, pretty much entirely devoid of 'soul'.  Obviously just me, but I vastly prefer the punch, deep intense groove, and verve of the original.  I'm pretty certain this was posted quite a few years back here, but that's ok - and Dickey with his gold guitar this day instead of his red one:

The Allman Brothers Band - Jessica - 1/16/1982 - University Of Florida Bandshell (Official) (youtube.com)

It's quite possible someone who posts on this board was present that day; not sure.  I *think* (not 100% certain) that's the awesome Chuck Leavell on keys, with (almost certainly) David Goldflies on bass.  This was when Dan Toler(sp?) was the other guitarist, before Warren Haynes.

"And I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus, rolling down Hwy. 41....."

BTW.................there is a thread (or two) just for covers, if by chance you want to check those out.

I posted this a few years ago on my fb when Josh was going with Jessica and they both needed to hear some good music (the yout') ... came here to post it not having looked at TN kumquat's last two comments due to my complete lack of interest. But I had seen the cover posted and did not look at it after all this is a Betts memorial thread.

Epic performance of Jessica at the bandshell. Complete concert at YouTube

In that vein, I guess...............here's an interview with Dickey shortly before his passing.  Not terribly exciting, but does give insight into what his life was like towards the end:

Lol then there were the twins Loyle and Doyle. They looked nothing alike though. Very recently came across Loyle on fb posting some music on a friend's post and he had changed his name so I didn't know it was Loyle til the friend outed him. He's now a fb friend but he ain't Loyle no more. What a life.

He didn't want anyone to know that we've talked outside of here. He wanted to keep it fake. That was well over a decade ago.
