There are plenty of asian markets around here. While I can see why there is a place in the culinary world for dishes comprised of pig snouts and uteri, I also saw in the bone section that they sold chicken bones. Mostly rib cages, they went for almost the price of whole chicken. People buy 'em or they wouldn't be out there. What a world.

Anybody ever had a mild chemical burn? If so, Any tips on how to help it quicker?

I donā€™t fuss too much over my appearance in any sort of daily routine way, but I take care of my skin pretty well by using vitamin e, coconut, and olive oil regularly and I do tea tree oil steams to stay healthy.

Epsom salt is also a regular and I bought various kinds recently, one being a bag of Dr teals vit c epsom and a prebiotic lemon body wash. The citrus made my neck and hands have some redness and itchiness. Itā€™s been days and none of my go-to oils have helped much.

Google wouldve once been good for advice on this sort of thing but now is just directing me to standard bs about seeking medical care for major chemical burns, or basic duh stuff, or how to buy more citrus Epsom, lol.  I want some good old fashioned type ā€œmy grandma always swore by,ā€ sort of tips, if anyone has any.

Ps- be careful w citrus.

1.  Be careful with citrus, she said.

2. Have you tried real aloe, directly from the plant?

3. Likely not too efficacious............but you might experiment with a poultice of simply baking soda and water on a small area.  Theory being a base counteracting an acid, but since the damage has already been done.........likely a long shot.  Easy to try, tho.  See #s 1 and 2. šŸ§‘ā€āš•ļø

I actually have an aloe plant! And I actually havenā€™t killed it. (Since Covid days Iā€™ve developed a green thumb and am good w flowers, but apparently no useful plants like herbs and such, which always die at my hand šŸ˜”)

I always forget I can actually USE the aloe!  This is a WONDERFUL idea! So is #3. (#1 is too, just a bit late for my dumb impulse to overdo it on new bath blends). Thnx, Iā€™ll try asap!

My aloe plant got huge. When I transferred it from my biggest pot into the ground, I couldn't believe how heavy it was. I could barely lift it. It's humongous. Many years ago (decades) I used straight aloe on a pretty bad sunburn. Sunburn went away overnight, and turned tan. I vowed never to burn again! I kept that vow!!!

I currently have slathered on the spots a mixture of every soothing, anti inflammatory, and/ or moisturizing agent I had in the house:

A ton of pure vit e, lots of coconut & olive oil (extra virgin, organic, unfiltered), bit of matcha powder, lot of aloe from my plant, one egg (yolk, not white, -usually opposite when I make a face mask), mashed banana, colloidal oatmeal I ground up v fine w pestle &mortar, milk, raw unfiltered honey, & some rose hip oil.

I have Argan oil, &a chamomile spray I forgot to add, also some cold pressed castor oil which Iā€™m foregoing on the chance Iā€™m allergic bc Iā€™ve had a reaction not long after using, but think it was from something else.

Iā€™d been using some vaseline but it says it has alcohol in it, as does my rose spray, so Iā€™m nixing those, the antibiotic ointment, & the anti itch ointment just in case.

I used the baking soda first then splashed off and did the others. Looked like I was making a cake and I basically have the equivalent of a healthy meal on my neck, so if all that still doesnā€™t work Iā€™ll officially panic.

TN-absolutely not.

Buzz-absolutely not.

So I took a Benadryl to be safe, which Iā€™m cranky about as merely half a Benny gen knocks me out and I woke up early and ready for the day- had extra coffee and even a redbull ( this is gross, yes- Iā€™m not usually a redbull person and I donā€™t plan to make a habit.)

I didnā€™t have goop before the burn, itsa last resort. My gran taught me herbal & vitamin basics tho and Iā€™m p good abt knowing what to apply and when. None of the stuff I used should cause any harm as itā€™s all just soothing stuff and Iā€™m used to these things. The stuff I rarely use, like the antibiotic ointment, Iā€™m canning for now.

The soothers have vastly helped the irritation, sting, &inflammation, especially the aloe (cheers to you TN!)  but the redness only a tiny bit.  My skin is gen a blessing..no breakouts, allergies, freckling, or hives, rarely sun burns and I donā€™t think Iā€™m even allergic to poison ivy &such.

So this is v annoying. Iā€™ll never use citrus salt or wash ever again! Never use prebiotic lemon balm bath stuff, fyi.

Rlly never had anything like this is why I asked. Itā€™s prob no big deal but bc Iā€™m not used to it, Iā€™m worrying itā€™ll get worse. My sis says sheā€™s had a chemical burn before from some bath thing and that it went away after a few days.

Yikes. ..and for various reasons.

One, I believe this is 2nd article Iā€™ve seen in as many weeks mentioning a teacher appearing in porn. So thatā€™s a thing. And one I wish my brain didnā€™t know.

Two, now wondering if thereā€™s a possible link between the fields, the way some politicians are in it for the power trips or some cops find a job that lets them be hotheads. Are some teachers just in it for the audience? Lol.. Another thing I donā€™t wanna think abt.

3-Iā€™m constantly conflicted on boundary between whatā€™s newsworthy and whatā€™s intrusion. Hard to know at times whatā€™s ā€œduty to report / informā€ vs ā€œsensationalist exploitation, clickbait style.ā€ Even some mags I once respected now opt to forego the legit and troll for the clicks, as it were.

Idk which category this falls under tho. Same dilemma w other headlines and why many can trigger a sort of mild cognitive dissonance for me. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

I wanted to put some peanuts out for my neighborhood squirrels, so I put a basket and a bird feeder with unsalted peanuts on the japanese maple next to my front window. My neighborhood mexican jays had other ideas. Since they've found it, they're not going to let go. They'll sit on that tree and stare at me if there's no peanuts. I've grown fond of them, they're pretty bluebirds and where the feeder is, crows and bigger birds don't have the agility to get to them.

I saw an article yday abt nazis marching thru Nashville and it rlly broke my heart.

I know weā€™re not meant to be political on here, so I wonā€™t be, but I donā€™t think of basic human decency as a political act, so I just want to say this for my own peace of mind:

If anyone happens to read this and is one of the many individuals targeted by such mindsets, Iā€™m sorry you have to share this Earth with anyone so self-entitled that they donā€™t want to share it with you. You shouldnā€™t have to endure such ignorance and cruelty, but please know their beliefs are not indicative of those felt by the rest of us. I suspect even many who think their bigotry is warranted are viewing the matter as abstraction rather than a real life horror, and hope theyā€™d change their tune if they actually knew the effects such beliefs have on innocent children, women, families, fellow human beings.

And for anyone at all who happens to read this, no matter who you are or what your beliefs, I hope you always have beauty and joy in your heart and in your lives and may you never open the door to hatred, cruelty, and bigotry in your mind. Such feelings seek out a home and theyā€™ll try to swallow anyone who gives them space. If you must hate, hate the idea of cruelty, hate a certain behaviorā€”not a life.

Still, no matter how dark a mind, itā€™s heartening to remember that weā€™re all changing, all the time, and that no matter what mistakes were made yesterday, a new opportunity is born each moment so that there always exists, for each of us, a chance to do better, be kinder, and to reject any stupid notions of who is or isnā€™t worthy of respect and compassion before we even ask the question.

The answer will always be: All of us.

TN, I canā€™t remember if you actually live in TN, but if so I bet that was awful to have such a happening so close to home. In recent years, weā€™ve had klan do similar things in my state and even the city I was in. Obama came to speak before his first election and klan made a point to be there, to communityā€™s horror and dismay. Years later they also did a march or something. It made me sick and sad. I canā€™t rlly even process such things very well.  It sparks much cognitive dissonance because I need to believe people are better than that on the whole, yet I canā€™t account for how such systems exist and endure.

But like I said, when I get depressed over it and feel like tossing in the towel and just loathing everyone, I have to remind myself, people can change. And also, thats not all people. Not even close. If it were, we wouldnā€™t see such outcry from others when it happens. This world has gotten kinder on the whole, and it can keep going.

TN, not anymore but was there for a long while. I had one major rule at my home, all were welcome as long as they treated each other well. And people would come and hang out and they lived by that rule. I loved that town and was offended for it, having such absurdity darken its doorstep. Fortunately, it held its own and that charade passed as quickly as it had come. Hopefully it always will, there and everywhere.

Wherever I am in the world tho, and wherever that kind of thing happens, itā€™s always going to be too close. Shouldnā€™t be anywhere.  Anyway, cheers to full hearts and better ways.

i was sent along with a buddy to this joint exercise near Eglin Airforce Base. We had traveled all night to get there. While trying to get situated, we got gaffled up like a couple of sad sacks to fill in a couple of seats at a tent staff meeting. Now this is one of those top strategy meetings filled with officers of Army, Navy and Airforce. So, I'm starting to nod off and there's this Major poking me in my ribs to stay awake. That's when I said to myself enough is enough. I head straight to the exit which is guarded by MPs. I told them I had to go latrine. So at the right moment, I hightailed it to my cot and promptly went to sleep. After a few hours here comes my buddy, saying after what I did a few officers tried it to, to no avail. No one left that tent. Little did I know my tent was right under the flight path of the Huey's.

Iā€™m sort of meh on much of the millennial speak, but if I had to pick one perfect term my generation brought, itā€™s ā€œmansplainingā€.. theres just no better term for the practice. And itā€™s a thing we all knew was annoying, without actually knowing what it was that bothered us..until they gave it a name, ha.

To be fair,  many guys donā€™t do it. And they are akin to heroes of the gender imo, ha.

Iā€™m also so grateful for the term bc it made some of the more obnoxious, chronic mansplainers take note and seem to slow on it, as if maybe they grew self conscious abt it. Maybe a lightbulb went off: ā€œeven though sheā€™s not a dude, she may actually have access to the same sources of knowledge and info that I do!ā€  Boom. On par with man creating fire, invention of the wheel, printing press, etc.. so transformative to mans psyche is that notion.

Most of my male friends donā€™t do that (why theyā€™re my friends)  but Iā€™ve def been the target as well as the witness of it so many times with females more knowledgeable on a subject than the ā€˜splainer, that it makes me feel quite nauseous actually.

Her response is akin to what I often see / how I used to react. Now if it happens ( for instance, had a guy at an office recently explain to me that thereā€™s moisture in foodā€” ā€œwe just donā€™t think abt that bc food is a solidā€) I try to reply with facts on the topic or say something like ā€œI didnā€™t know that was in question.ā€ But only bc Iā€™ve seen some rlly obnoxious kinds and it can get out of hand. I have a fam member who used to critique near EVERYTHING my mom said, and annoyingly, he was almost always completely wrong and she was always too gracious to tell him. Now, he doesnā€™t do it and I think it must be that he heard that expression and is scared to be called that, ha
