in the Illinois governors thread, snowy uses the word Schadenfreude, with which I am unfamiliar, but a comment by firenze that she's not surprised the germans have a word for that (taking pleasure in the misfortune of others, definition provided by mabb) leads me to think of the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, and I wonder if I will encounter the word Schadenfreude in the near future. So I go to wikipedia to make sure I understand the whole Baader-Meinhof thing, and there's the word Schadenfreude. I open another guinness.

Funny. I wasn't aware of that term/phenomenon. In fact, seeing it I was suddenly put to mind of the Badder-Meinhof Gang.

actually "Schadenfreude" was prominately mentioned in TVs "Two and a Half Men" by the Rose character who translated it in English as "Ha Ha" I felt I needed to add this tidbit as it was just on TV the other night, my apologies for going over my quota. Tomorrow I'll forgo posting at all.

Ok. Wow. Get this...... I have a fried with whom this phenomenon figures prominently. So, early today, I sent the Wikipedia link to this person saying "We're in Wikipedia!" So.....tonight we happened to be watching the Sundance Channel, and went to their "On Demand" section, and TOTALLY by chance picked out a movie to watch, "The Protagaonist", which is a very interesting documentary about the lives of four men, and of which neither of us had ever heard. I won't go into detail of the movie, but one of the four men was Hans-Joachim Klein, member of the "Revolutionary Cells", an offshoot of, you guessed it, the Baader-Meinhof Group, and so of course that was mentioned in the movie. So.....Groucho, or whoever wants to hazard a guess, calculate the odds that a Baader-Meinhof phenomenon would occur about the Baader-Meinhof Group, ON THE VERY DAY THIS THREAD WAS STARTED!!
