I've been at this site for about 5 yrs now and have often wondered (pondered is the word for Snowy) about the reason, behind the various nicks used here. This seems like a fun, non-politigeous (new word for political/religious)thread. Ok, who wants to start??? KMc

Honestly Joe, when I first started playing games here and not going to the db or chat, I thought I was pretty *hot* at solving games. Until..........I ran in to the likes of Micky, mabb, cubicsprock(hey where is he anyway), kenwa, Peter, Eds, WRAC, Elguapo, Jeffmo, Laffman, Mastermind to name only a few. I've thought about changing nicks but I would hate to lose all my stats. Obviously, my nick is NOT from my reality identity. Ok, come on you guys, tell us your nick story. KMc

The story behind my name is not exciting. Ann is my name. 13 is my favorite number, and not the number of children I have.

I wanted something related to cats (remember Krazy Kat?) and something that would be connected to my name, and then thought of a great pun on "Gatsby," from Fitzgerald's novel.

One night while reading discussion I noticed a certain poster was calling people names who disagreed with their point of view. (Gee, I wonder who that could be?) So I called this person on that. And I was promptly told: "Get off your high horse, Ed". (I was posting with a nick with "Ed" in it.) I started think, boy, that would make a great name. So EddieHighHorse was born....and a little later, HighHorseEddie.

(I remember it well, smake! In fact, I may have been the one to encourage you to grab that name...) By the way, I first came in in the mid-90's as "Lege" (for a reason I won't go into here at this time.) Then, I departed for a few weeks. Coming back in, I thought I needed a new name. I has nothing AT ALL to do with cocaine-type "snow"! But, it was snowing outside. We had a really nice blanket of snow covering everything. Ergo: Snowguy

lilshedvl was my altar ego on my porn site. Ok not really. To be honest, I really have no idea how my name came about. I know it was back in my hellion days, I have been called a devil more than once, I am short and a chick. So I guess that is how I got it. I have had this nick for about 18 years. Before I was lilshedvl I was banshee. XOXO Lils

I'm curious about the 18 years, lil. Seventeen years ago last month (Dec 91) was the invention of the world wide web, and at that time it was an unknown technology pretty much confined to techno-geeks in Europe. It wasn't until the release of the Mosaic browser two years later that the web began to explode; that's when I used it for the first time and I can remember how incredilby much smaller it was then, than it is today. So what did you use your nick for 18 years ago?

I retired from a police department and was a dog handler for 13 years. Ed is the easy part. Maybe I should now change the nick to include social security somehow. Well I have until June to decide as thats when the first check comes.

There's a trip down memory lane, joey :-) I took the name GoodOlMike around the time that Mosaic came out. There was a really cool chat program called World's Chat, not web but internet connected, that I spent way too much time on. At that time the internet and the web were mostly geeks with nicks like longdong. What women were around all wanted to be foxylady :-) I though those names sounded pretty silly and wildly misleading. So I chose a simple, non-threatening name.

Back in the early days of the net, I was playing hearts on a simple applet driven game. It was painfully slow but still really cool. They required a name of 8 characters or less. I tried out various names, but they were all pretty lame. Empty chairs were filled by "robots" on that site, so I took a robot-inspired name. There was a cartoon robot (on the Jetson's -- Rosie's boyfriend, as I recall) who would always preface his remarks with a monotonic "buzzzz click!". I assumed the name BuzzClik. I liked it, and it was pretty unique, so it stuck.
