Ya know, this here is a damn fine baseball game.

Yeah that was a good game. PHI clawed their way back from the 0-5 deficit to win it. I early on said Kyle Tucker had just sealed the deal but no wait, PHI wasn't done. Verlander pitched a great first 4 innings but then they got to him bigtime.

What do you think about the "lean in"? It sure looked like a solid lean in to me. A baseball friend says "oh it happens all the time. Some hitters have built their careers around it." I gotta say I don't understand exactly why he'd try to get hit with runners on 2nd and 3rd. He'd just load the bases yielding a force at any base. Unless they were counting on the pitcher walking one in. Theories?

Wow. Such obsession. Possibly worse than billboards across St Louis decrying Din Denkinger’s blown call in the Royals/Cards series. Sign stealing has been a part of baseball since the inception of signs. How many fastballs did Roger Clemens bury in the ribs of opponents because they were stealing signs? 100? 1000? And the Red Sox using cellphones to relay signs from the scoreboard? Will we spend most of a decade howling at the moon when we find out (and we will) that some team is dialed into the frequency of the new electronic gizmos being used to send signs? I was in the stands for an interminable extra innings World Series game pitting Houston vs Dodgers in the series in question. Two fantastic pitchers started and neither could put any bite in the curve ball. Both teams beat the pitchers like a cheap plastic garbage can with balls flying out of Minuute Maid all night long. Ends up the Series balls all had less prominent seams, implemented by MLB, supposedly to increase the amount of offense. And they told no one. But that HUGE fact is buried in the oh-so-unheard of signing stealing scandal.

Astonishing that they changed the baseballs and told no one. Unbelievable. Are you sure that happened? I'm not saying it didn't - just hadn't heard that elsewhere.

Oh, yeah. We discussed that in some detail, back at the time (2017) in the "crazy baseball occurrence" thread (see link). I got the impression you meant before *this* Series. But apparently that's standard practice for every one now?? Or is it? I haven't researched it, but also haven't heard any controversy since then - but that doesn't mean much, since I no longer follow baseball closely these years. Either way, still an absurdity. As I've wailed multiple times........."baseball" (and of course other sports are not immune) has become "entertainment couched as baseball", or however one wants to label it. Ol' Dizz, as just a clever 🙃 example, must be getting even dizzier as the rpms of his grave turnings continue to increase. 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂🙃.

The Mets now have the highest payroll in the history of the sport. To give it some perspective: - The Mets spent more on Correa last night than the Pirates have spent in total since 2010. - The Mets are spending more on luxury tax than 10 teams are spending on their entire payrolls.
