btw, I also like the idea of calling this variant mrbob. It would be a very neat way to honor and remember him.

Mr. Bob would have/ is honored in spirit to have 10x1 named after him. When he first started playing 10x1, he felt that the game truly massaged the brain to search all the columns before putting the correct card on the preceding higher number. We used to play with regular 52 card packs to see if we could manage the games "manually". He was intrigued by the statistics of success and the "Grouchos '"and"" Mabb's and the many players"comments. All of you freecell players who responded simply by playing the game enriched Mr.Bob's life. We were tied to the home base and the hospitals, so freecell gave Bob the fun outlet his mind needed to relax and live. What is in a game? What you put into it? What you give to it . What you get out of it. Thank you Denny et al! You enrich all our lives. Jeanne aka mrs bob , now bobswidow

Congrats Dr.Imhungry! Let me know if you want your trophy. Regarding the mrbob; I think bobswidow should decide how she would like the name punctuated. Whether it's mrbob, Mr.Bob or Mister Bob, or whatever. Then we should direct this to Denny.

I think loungelizard was referring to the fact that the winner was a Dr. So that would make the second place really the winner. I have never heard if the Dr. rule applies to the SSC.

Big Kudos to ImHungry. 10x1 is definitely a tough variant. I had games that were 38/4, 28/6, and 17/3 just to get ot of level-5. I had this game to get to 17 wins (18438-6). Looking at it, I thought it was impossible but played it anyway. Anyone else care to give it a shot?

Congrats also to Dr.ImHungry. I must not have been tipping *my* dealer enough, as I got brutal deals, too. In my streak of 15, #6 was 2/25, and #9 was 4/21. And then the one I lost on was 1/4....

You can use any name you want to on the SSC. Some people use their Dr persona, some their main nick and others use another alias. I personally like to use my primary name. One advantage of using your main name or the dr is at least others know who you are and we all know who to pin the medal on at the end :O) Others use different names for a variety of reasons. The rules are simple, the name at the top of the pile for that variant on that day is the winner. I think it has brought in a few names into competition and has shown some streak stars who consistently show the rest of us their freecell accuracy skills.

It's not the same. The person who plays later has the advantage of knowing the first person's results so he/she knows how much to play to beat the result. The first person doesn't have that luxury. This is especially clear if we take a variant like 9x4 where all games are solvable. I could solve 100 or 200 or maybe 300 games, whatever I need to have a solid lead but someone who comes later can always go to 5 games more if they're really determined to win. You say - I can solve 5 games more too if I'm really determined to win and that's true, I can solve a hundred games more if I'm really determined but at a certain point I must stop and then the other player knows the result they must beat to win. The last players always have this advantage. I'm not angry or anything, I had a nice streak, I just explained why I made that comment because you asked.

I would argue in the case of an easier variant that the earlier player can put up a number that precludes later attendees from even giving it a go. For instance if I wake up to say 10x3s where somebody already has 200+ games, then I can almost guarantee that I'm going to mow the lawn... :D

It's good to see that Americans also call it "mow the lawn". Occasionally I'll say "cut the lawn" but usually it's "mow".
