My bff is a dude, and we fight a lot. After 35 years I believe I have finally figured out why! Country is his music of choice, going against everything else about him. That doesn't bother me as long as I'm not forced to listen to it! Never gave it a lot of thought but he won't listen to anything good. He just does not get it!!! And he thinks country is the greatest!!! What?!?!???? I don't get it!!!

That's a strong data point, but not definitive, imo. Unfortunately, apparently Denny's search function has some sort of (new, unfortunate) limit now (other than its always-been-there limitations). And I'm not saying it wasn't xeena. I just think it goes back even further than 2012. I almost want to say joey first introduced it, but that may be wrong. He would likely know that, either way. I'm sure it was used (unsuccessfully, to him) in some of the andaronjim threads, but not sure how far back those go.

Here's a cover done in the sort of style of the original but with some important differences. The song is "Iris" by the Goo-Goo Dolls, a huge hit for the group from a couple of decades ago. (I saw these guys in concert in their early days in an old movie theater in Lawrence Kansas.) https://youtu.be/NdYWuo9OFAw Phoebe Bridgers and Maggie Rogers covered the song as something of a fulfilled promise (having to do with the 2020 election). Sorry, but you'll have to listen to it on SoundCloud.

I reversed the chronology, not being familiar with the 2 Goo Dolls' track, and enjoyed both - C% acoustic/harmony mix v orchestration/solo vocal. Not sure why SoundCloud requires an apology; no intrusive ads, customised virtual video viewed behind the eyes. Wasn't familiar with Maggie Rogers (before this trigger); & Wikipedia informs me that: At school, she played harp in the orchestra, sang in the choir, joined a jazz band, learned banjo and became interested in folk music, and taught herself how to program. How depraved is that? Not the usual immersive school age hedonism then...

not really a cover, well sort of, but i've been wanting to post a vid of Charo and this is as good a place as any. probably three categories of viewers: 1. who the hell is Charo 2. yeah i know who Charo is, and i think i've heard she also plays guitar. cuchi cuchi. 3. why the hell isn't she known as one of the most amazing guitar players of all time? unfortunately there is a dearth of quality video of her actually playing, i thought this captured her well.

Kinda quirky how she/they felt the need to have her on one tall stool, then switch to another smaller one she could prop her leg on. Must be how television and movies just work, I guess. Love how the guitarists stand there swaying the whole time. Must be the way it was in the early '60s, I guess. I actually remember seeing her on Ed Sullivan, but don't know if it was that one or not.

This one is a bit marginal. Tico starts off well enough, but he forgets the words and starts whistling some random tune. Just winging it. If you're going to tread on hallowed ground and cover the Talking Heads, this is the way it's done.

But only since I "discovered" her yesterday when the school's copy of the video with 3 mil views showed up on my utub, and I posted in song farmers before I knew it wasn't five girls but actually only one, when a banjo player I know spotted it, his wife said he was watching her picking hand. Well the astute wife friend delved further. . . Millie is just wildly good.

The pop song, "Gloria" was made popular in the U.S. by Laura Branigan in the early 80s. https://youtu.be/nNEb2k_EmMg The Branigan version was a cover and lyrical rewrite of a very popular song by Italian, Umberto Tozzi. https://youtu.be/rZkSo4_qtFg Angel Olsen just released her cover of the song and decided to turn it into an exploration of depression under a shroud of over-medication. Although Olsen's version will never make an appearance on a pop chart, I highly prefer it.
