Well, several of us have posted what I'd call "world music" on the "Interesting New music", "Folk music" (that you made several posts on), or, less frequently, on the "old music" threads. I think "world music" is a better thread subject than "folk music", but the crossover may be less than I would think at first. Certainly "folk music" would generally have less electrical instruments, but only in general.
Beyond that......................in the U.S., "world music" is **sometimes** synonymous with, or conflated with, African and/or Caribbean and/or S.A. music. "Afrobeat" is one of my favorite musical styles, but here it's hard to be exposed to much of it (easily). (Thank you Mr. Internet.) Reggae (or "reggie" music as it was labeled in an old SNL skit) is also one of my most-listened formats. A few of us have posted some of that. Further............it hasn't been that long since we spent time commenting on the big-production Sri Lankan video. (Can't remember which thread.) Further still............I've posted 3 or 4 of the "Playing for change" videos, which altho mostly in English, certainly have an all-world flavor and all-world participants. I think at least 2 of those are in the "Interesting New Music" thread. The Taj one might be in the "old music" thread; not sure.
I've considered starting a thread similar to what you suggest (or now have started), but I guess I've just been content to post in the pre-existing threads. Another barrier to broader participation, sadly, is that we don't have as many non-U.S. players as we used to have. Seems like we used to have 2x or 3x as many, if not more than that. But bring it on.......

That kind of thing, unless it's sort of 'set up' by introduction or some other 'expectation' or necessity, makes one doubt the whole thing. But maybe that's just my Milli Vanilli-burned consciousness talking. (Not that I would like them even a tiny little bit, anyway.) When I go see live music, I wanna see LIVE music. Obvious exceptions are one-man-band kinds of things, or pre-recorded things while something visual is playing in the background - and not even keen on that. I'm sure there are other acceptable exceptions, but I think you get my point.
Many bands just don't do live performances of songs they've recorded with huge amounts of overdubbing or studio trickery - and props to them for not trying. Or..........and props for this, too...............they make it so different as to be a novel, or semi-novel rendering. And yeah, I know.................my objection is sort of a "you-kids-get-off-my-lawn!" type of complaint. But that's what makes live music so enjoyable. I think I mentioned once upon a time that the only (noteworthy (counter-pun intended)) concert I ever just walked out of was Bob Seeger (with near-stage seats) because I just might as well have been listening to the record(s). *Nothing* was being added to the experience - and I'm fairly easy to please along those lines, generally.
Sorry for the rant. I guess that's just a pet peeve I have against over-production. I want to be 'challenged' - at least a little.

I could nit-pik, though. I'm generally not a fan at all of the over-production in the way of all the flashy lighting effects. Incredibly distracting. I MUCH prefer a band, or solo artist, to just stand (or sit, if need be) there and play. LET THE MUSIC SPEAK FOR ITSELF. Music *is* entertainment, sure, but I mostly want to experience it as an art form - I want the performer(s) to 'teach' me something, or challenge me, like an art museum does, or a great film (back when they could be viewed for less than the price of a week's groceries). Make me think; make me emote; make me wonder; make me see things I've never seen before. Draw me in conceptually and break a boundary or three.
One more extremely tiny nit-pik: the fans, who know all the words and sing along. Reminds me all too much of a bunch of U.S. country fans - who go to 'those things' almost *in order to* sing along with the big hits. This may sound snobbish, but that sorta works against the philosophies I drag out above. But all that's just my personal preference(s). Everyone is free to experience and enjoy music however they want to. All that is not to detract from what appears to be a fine performance by the band in the link you provide.
Finally...........as another analogy..............would I rather see a live baseball game from 1972 or 2022? Well, from 1972, because it was more pure sport - not so much juiced-up "entertainment". Similarly....................I'd (IN GENERAL) much rather see a bare-bones live band in 1972 (just as a proxy date for "earlier times"), warts and all, than a very-heavily-produced example from "modern times". Well, I saw Boston twice during a similar time frame (altho likely slightly earlier), on two different tours, at two different sites, and I was satisfied both times. Don't think I'd put either in the top 50, or maybe even top 100 shows I've seen.........but that covers a lot of ground.

The following song is from the 1975 contest. It came last in the voting with only three points given by Monaco, but it was one of best so far (IMO).

The music's ok, but it's absolutely ruined by the overproduction; the ridiculously-quick camera cuts, etc. "But maybe it's just me." Reminds me of those Celtic (mostly wimmens) "specials" that SNL parodies. Another one of those types of things that must be required in film school these days (along with the slo-mo pharmaceutical ads).
I much prefer when a band just gets up there and does their thing. I think I posted this a few years ago, but can't find it. (Heck - it may be earlier in this thread.) If'n I remember correctly, you liked it a lot. There's a longer version, too, but I think I just posted this excerpt. It rocks.

The music's ok, but it's absolutely ruined by the overproduction; the ridiculously-quick camera cuts, etc. "But maybe it's just me." Reminds me of those Celtic (mostly wimmens) "specials" that SNL parodies. Another one of those types of things that must be required in film school these days (along with the slo-mo pharmaceutical ads).
I much prefer when a band just gets up there and does their thing. I think I posted this a few years ago, but can't find it. (Heck - it may be earlier in this thread.) If'n I remember correctly, you liked it a lot. There's a longer version, too, but I think I just posted this excerpt. It rocks.

I guess it can help me focus not to think anything.
I have always been listening to music when I work something (solving a math problem, study for the tomorrow's exam of a hard lesson, write some code, or write some technical document, and even playing freecell, etc.). But not this kind of music. I like the songs with varying tempos, up and down. My mind focuses sometime on the work and sometime on the music. It works well for me.
