OK since many of you are not sophisticated enough to appreciate Jack Handey's unique perspective on things, I've removed most of his quotes but left a few which I think even the lesser intellects among you will like. MrFixit P.S. Before you get all offended, I'm just being goofy. But I did scrub a lot of Mr. Handey's stuff. I think when I was compiling the "quote" files I found a bunch of Jack Handey and just cut'n'pasted.

Looks like I kept 7 which I think are pretty funny. When I die I want to go peacefully in my sleep, like Grandpa did, not screaming like his passengers in the car. The face of a child can say it all, especially the mouth part of the face. Laurie got offended that I used the word "puke." But to me, that's what her dinner tasted like. I think the mistake a lot of us make is thinking the state-appointed psychiatrist is our "friend." Broken promises don't upset me. I just think, why did they believe me? I believe in making the world safe for our children, but not our children's children, because I don't think children should be having sex. If I ever get real rich, I hope I'm not real mean to poor people, like I am now. My vote for worst Handey woule be: Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someones neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing.

More gems from Handey: One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late. I bet the main reason the police keep people away from a plane crash is they don't want anybody walking in and lying down in the crash stuff, then, when somebody comes up, act like they just woke up and go, "What was THAT?!" We tend to scoff at the beliefs of the ancients. But we can't scoff at them personally, to their faces, and this is what annoys me. To me, it's always a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, "Hey, can you give me a hand?," you can say, "Sorry, got these sacks." I guess I kinda lost control, because in the middle of the play I ran up and lit the evil puppet villain on fire. No, I didn't. Just kidding. I just said that to help illustrate one of the human emotions, which is freaking out. Another emotion is greed, as when you kill someone for money, or something like that. Another emotion is generosity, as when you pay someone double what he paid for his stupid puppet.

Is Jack Handey funny? No, not even a little bit. Most of the quotes from him not only fail to amuse, they evoke disgust and/or bewilderment. If I were allowed to determine the parameters for including or excluding quotes, I would definitely exclude any that are snide, sneering condescensions about either particular individuals or groups of people.

I believe anyone who doesn't laugh or at least smirk at any Handey quote simply doesn't get it or has been offended by a word or phrase or idea expressed in the quote, leading to an exasperated denial that it is humorous. Quasi-philosophical cracked aphorisms; nothing wrong with Handey (except the clown joke. I was appalled and disgusted! No, I wasn't, not even when I attended Handey's dad's wake) Love the evil puppet quote. Great article on Handy is linked below, with accolades and kudos from many well-known and/or accomplished people.

I always appreciate your humor, Denny. My dad quoted this one: I never saw a Purple Cow, I never hope to see one; But I can tell you, anyhow, I'd rather see than be one. But to continue the discussion, I would like to point out that you said you didn't want political commentary on our Freecell website and then you yourself put in something to make fun of Herschel Walker who is currently a candidate for U.S. Senate. Here's a recent quote from the weather.com site about Chinese air pollution: "In a manner of speaking, China is exporting its air pollution to the West Coast of America," lead researcher Willem Verstraeten of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute said in a statement. https://weather.com/science/environment/news/china-emissions-reach-america Herschel Walker may not have made his argument in an intellectual or scholarly fashion, but his point was clear to me. And it matches this article published on weather.com.
