So Google is telling me I'll make about $1150/month with the rollup ads. This would be like the glory days of Internet advertising for me. That says I would make about $13800 per year. I'm currently making about $2600 per year.

Back in those glory days I was making $12k per year on Freecell so that's what I started giving to charity. I've continued to make up the difference out of my own pocket even as ad revenue went in the toidy.

So tell ya what. Imma keep the rollup ads, they seem to be a pretty minor annoyance. Just click the little handle to make the ad go down. And I don't use Google ads in the game, that's a whole other provider so no changes in the actual game.

And then I'll continue to give about $9k outta my pocket and we'll give a total of about $20k per year to charities (World Vision and UNICEF specifically).

Now if by some chance I don't actually realize that level of revenue I'll revisit this.

Everybody down with that?

P.S. Also my hosting is gonna jump up next year as I leave to "1st year only" pricing. But I think revenue will still be in the neighborhood of about $20/year.

P.P.S. I'm retired now so I'm on the proverbial "fixed income" but life is pretty good so I've been continuing to try to be a bit charitable.

P.P.P.S. Crud I'm forgetting about the income from Conversant/Epsilon. I'll check on that later. Maybe that'll affect my numbers so don't write this down yet.

P.P.P.S. I went to another site this morning researching dog breed stuff and they had more ads than I'd ever seen before. And I've seen a mess of 'em. This site will never be like that, that's for sure. I couldn't even find the actual supposed content. Still they came up as the first search result.

You'ld never revisit the Premium Player option, I suppose? I was one for years and I've never really got used to ads since the option stopped. Regular payment, no problem. I know it's not simple for you - I read the last thread on this; but I for one would appreciate you even more than I do already.

These ads help you. Then theyre OK. Just left a site though because of ads. Just typed in "New York Times Games" after reading a rather disturbing news headline involving the murder of one of their executives. Got about 6 little games boxes. Clicked "play" on wordle. An ad filled the screen. Being theres nowhere to click it away, thatll be the last of "wordle". These ads on freecell do clear.

nug-- as I've said before the cost/effort of doing Premium was not worth the pittance of money. I think I still have the stuff in place to easily turn off ads. Lemme see if there's a way I can do a "one and done" Premium that would last forever.

.|. -- yeah I hate that stuff. I couldn't stand to come to my site if it was buried in ads. Still not fer sure on keeping the rollups. I need to see the actual money, not just Google's "estimate". I don't think I've seen any other site on the 'net that says they give ad money to charity. At least the commitment here is that you're helping some childrens charities.

If you're making 14 K on the ads for charity I can go to the bother of making them disappear

cellmate - as I indicate above I remain skeptical. I wanna actually see the revenue, not just the "estimate". But if I really make 6x the money for having the rollup at the bottom then I'm saying we'll take all that additional dough and I'll up my charitable contribution. But that's all contingent on actually seeing the rewards and the rollups not becoming too annoying.

I'm not a big fan of how they've apparently decided it was OK to "experiment" on my site.

I may end up doing a totally ad free version and just asking for a one time donation of $30 or something. Over the entire lifespan of Premium (the old ad free option) it looks like I had less than a 1% subscribe rate.

OK I'm not seeing the estimated/promised revenue gains. We'll give it another couple of days and then I'll start looking for how to turn off the roll ups.

MrFixit...As others have expressed, we appreciate you immensely.  It pains me to think that you are actually having expenses that come out of your pocket and I am willing to do whatever it takes (and put up with whatever it takes!) to minimize the financial stress on you.  I have been playing for many enjoyable years and I can't stress enough how grateful I am for your work on this site.

Thanks spug but I feel pretty lucky to be able to say things are OK in retirement-land and I'm still able to do some personal giving. I guess what I was hoping was I could ask you guys to put up with some additional ad load if there was a bunch more ad money I could direct towards charity but I'm not seeing that so far. Stay tuned.

From this end you have, as of this morning (Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, if it's relevant). Thank you, MrF.
