It's often a decision whether to post the actual research article, vs. the more 'palatable' media-ized version.  I've found that Katie Hunt (author of the CNN version), 8+ times out of 10, does a good-to-excellent job of 'translating' the science - including this time.  Which is definitely *not* to say that we shouldn't prefer the original research.  It's a balance between specificity/completeness, and accessibility of consumption (FD&C #5 pun not intended). So props to redberet for upping the ante a bit. 

Delocalized electrons are amazing - or, well, their properties are.  A tiny word of caution.....     While we all want to get our daily/weekly/yearly/lifelong doses of FD&C Yellow #5..............there *are* some health effects at higher doses, which is why it is banned in some countries.  I won't belabor all those possibilities, but if you happen to be one of those rare individuals allergic to aspirin, then you may be allergic to this, too, so anaphylaxis is a possibility.

You know..........that *could* go in a lot of different directions..........but I think that wiki definition is pretty much on target.  Perhaps it's true that people *use* that word in such a wide variety of contexts that it *becomes* amorphous, but that doesn't change the actual definition.  Just my viewpoint.

TB* have mind boggling circumferences on some of theirs. Not sure what I'm stepping into here, and I *hope* that somehow I'm not "he-who-shall-not-be-named" (not sure why I would be)...................but Go, you may have missed my post back on Aug. 19 in the "old music" thread, about the documentary "You See Me Laughin':  The Last of the Hill Country Bluesmen".  You may want to go back and check that out (Fat Possum reekage) -- or...........you may be so totally familiar with it that there's no need.  And as I think is clear.........I ain't no 'Sippi boy, and I haven't actually ever set foot in Oxford.  But I have always been a big fan of the North Mississippi Blues style, and love me some (original line-up, especially) North Mississippi All-Stars, as well as R.L. Burnside, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and their ilk. As well as Junior Kimbrough.  I'm friends with a guy who used to play a lot with the Dickinsons' father, Jim, in Memphis, and I've talked to R.L.'s son Dwayne a time or two when he was with the All-Stars.  Back in their early years, they were a true force of nature.

Fat Possum: I spent one summer in Vicksburg, but that's my only Mississippi connection. Fat Possum has released a lot of Indie music that is top notch. Some of their artists that I have seen live: Al Green, Andrew Bird, Buffalo Nichols, DEHD, Dinosaur Jr., Jay Reatard, Smith Westerns, Soccer Mommy, Sonny and the Sunsets, Sunflower Bean, Tennis, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Wavves.

Treading even *more* lightly.............I personally thought your "weave" comment was perfect.  I see that as a compliment, because she actually does 'weave' a wide variety of sometimes-arcane-but-relevant things together into a quite cohesive statement.  Further, if I may...............it's as if she has several multiple 'channels' going on in her brainbone at once, but is fully capable of keeping them all going at the same time, until the time to coalesce them arrives - and then there they are.  It's really mental multi-tasking - except with panache - at a very high level.  Impressive, actually.

True that (apparently).  But you know how that works........   If a company can't sell its product(s) as they are in CA, they will change their products so that they don't have to make separate versions just for CA.  But yes, as it stands for now............the sale of good ol' FD&C yellow #5 will still be legal in CA.  But if enough other states follow their lead (I know, perhaps a tough slog), that could change.

A loophole might be that schools can buy Doritos, and other dyed products for "science experiments" on mice, etc.

My only concern is a possible color change for Cheetos. My wardrobe consists exclusively of fabrics that do not show the orange smudges that accompany foraging on Cheetos.
