Message:mercury, context is important in language. When I said "I don't care any longer," the context was "just what problem [Snowguy was] having there."
I read some of Snowguy's response, in order to see any new non-nitpicking material. Then, I repeated my comment in case he missed it. (It's his call, of course.)
I didn't give up reading entirely. I continue to read non-Snowguy-nitpicking content, like your question.
I hope that answers it.

Message:more from Snowguy, way back, that got overlooked, perhaps because it was nitpicky:
"are pilots who trained for space missions, but never actually flew into space, really astronauts?"
I copied and pasted that into google, for Snowguy.
http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=are+pilots+who+trained+for+space+missions%2C+but+never+actually+flew+into+space%2C+really+astronauts%3F+&btnG=Google+Search
just from perusing the fifth google entry, I can see many who never left the ground, being referred to as astronauts (even in the title). the first entry was curious, i won't say interesting. it was this thread.
But trust me, if I was on Jeopardy and the question came up, I would have been the first to buzz in, if the buzzer was working. (haha)

Hystterical, are you saying American astrospies actually did inhabit an orbital station and spy on the Soviet Union, gathering intelligence from that space-borne spy platform?
The references I read didn't indicate that. My understanding was that unmanned technology and capabilities were advancing very fast, and that manned spaceflight missions were too costly (and unnecessary) for any "humint" that may have been discovered.
I will withhold my own .slap for the time being... (I would expect the whole of the record should be examined, not just some television special.)
If you show me somewhere in reliable record where there were actual American spy astronaut flights that Pres. Johnson lied to the American public about, I will be the first to acknowledge it.

Message:Let me tell you about myself, bird. There are two kinds of people when they see an Internet news item. Some always want to watch the film clip, and but others prefer to read all about it. I am of the second group. I *usually* eschew the film clip as a waste of time.
The same with news programs, television specials, etc. Many people like to watch them, and take them at face value, no matter how sensationalistic they might be. But, on the other hand, others prefer to read various sources. Again, that group includes such as myself.
While print media is often slanted, reading several sources tends to make up for that deficiency and slant. Tell me, did you view another television program, to give a different take on the "Spyonauts"?
But, back to the issue at hand. Hysterical .slapped me, with nothing to back it up. You came in with a criticism that I didn't bother to watch a lengthy film clip (showing one producer's take on what to include) of a television show. But, again you didn't answer any questions. You didn't bring up anything of substance. Just criticized me for not watching a film clip.
But, I found the transcript of the program, and scanned every word in five-ten minutes instead of wasting an hour watching people talk. And, what did I find? They had a program planned. They trained astronauts They built equipment. But, with the program set to take off in 1970 or later, the program was canceled in 1969.
If anybody deserves to be .slapped in this latest exchange, it's you and her.

Message:A good researcher uses film clips of actual events. Usually a good researcher is ecstatic to come across a visual representation (film clip) of what they are researching. You miss a lot of information on actual historic events when you refer to viewing documentaries (film) as "a waste of time." I pity you for not seeing any of Ken Burn's documentaries on American history as he relies heavily on visual representations, "film clips"

Don't tell me about the value of film clips. This past summer I shot a three-hour film of a 100-year-old ex-coal miner, answering my, and my daughter's, (she is a professional editor) questions.
I do use film clips, but what you are doing is depending on ONE film clip. I told you I READ the transcript of that very television show.,. What don't you understand about that?
Frankly, you and hysterical are one-song singers. If anybody's time is being wasted here, it's mine. Because all you offer is criticism, but no content. You two have no substance.
And, hysterical, thanks for clarifying that for me. I am happy to see that you are a fool who knows that about NOVA.

Message:In the future, when a discussion revolves around a program viewed on TV, please refrain from the discussion unless you have viewed the said TV show. That goes for film too. Snowguy, in all honesty, because you refused to view the program, you jumped to inaccurate assumptions based on one of my sentences and you continued to ask questions that were easily answered if you viewed the program. You, to this day, have not viewed it and instead condemn the viewing of TV documentaries because, in this case, it "depended on ONE film clip" and because of that, "it's a waste of time" (what?) I don't know what "ONE film clip" suggests...do you think it is ONE 49 minute film clip? or do you think, reading the transcript, that it is ONE archival film clip and the rest of the 49 minutes were talking heads...which is it? At any rate, you, married to a librarian, do not sound like you listen much to your wife, or maybe she has given up on you too. But I have lost all respect for you, you post on subjects you know nothing about, and worse, refuse to educate yourself by a simple viewing of a 49 minute documentary, thereby keeping up with the discussion in which the rest of us are talking about said documentary, and the worst of it is, you're proud of yourself.
