I kinda feel bad for El Tigres, but on the other hand, aren't they being self-destructive - again? That organization, seems to me, are virtually always in "buy" or "sell" mode - to the extent of having blinders on concerning where their *current* status is. The Dodgers, however, are (as I've already stated) becoming the NL "Yankees". Bad for baseball.....
I hope Miz throws a perfecto tonight, and key (random) Dodger suffers season-ending injury.
(And before anyone whines about wishing ill upon one's opponent: It's all part of the game...and MLB pension is >3x average American salary...
Mr. T. was the star at Wrigley Field the other day...I heard over the radio yesterday, and watch today...
Satisfied Brewers Fan say: 7IP 2R 2ER H4, BB1, K11, HR(2) (Ohtani, Ohtani)
Balk calls reviewable next year, likely.
WTF (AL Pennant) Blue Jays? Forward into contention...
No AL West or Central team will win the pennant.
While TN is 'busy'.................since you bring up balks, who's the MLB all-time 'leader' for balks? (And there's a crazy stat that goes with that.)
(And yes, he needs to dole out some answers when he comes back.)
Nope, but decent guess. But surprise - it *is* a southpaw.

Debuts for Cardinals with BACK-to-BACK-to-BACK HOMERS>
Rookie NYM RF Carson Benge...every time I see this dude I see AS quality all over the place (assist yesterday, WAR nearing 3).
ππππ On Carlton! And get this -- he had TWICE as many as who's next. And get *this* -- the guy with the second-most all-time is that *other* post-McClain 25+ game winner besides Carlton, and the most recent: none other than, again, the non-Fleetwoods Bob Welch!!
Carlton had like 27 victories for a team that won fewer than 60...so, I'd be curious: team's record in his starts...like 33 victories, or something.
Yeah, *that* year, '72, the Phils were BAAAD. They only won 59 total, and no other pitcher won more than 7 games , OR even was above .500 W-L. So that was the first of Lefty's four Cy Youngs. And how did Philly get Carlton?? By getting him from Busch's Cardinals for the aforementioned Rick Wise.
So..............back to the unanswered question of what was so remarkable about Wise's no-no that he threw against the Reds in '71. Well, only 4 guys in ML history have hit a HR whilst twirling a no-no. Wes Ferrell (1931), Jim Tobin (1944), Earl Wilson (1962), and then Rick Wise (1971). Pretty rare event. BUT WAIT - it's even crazier than that! HE HIT TWO that game! WHILE SUFFERING FROM THE FLU!! And he was only 1 walk away from a perfecto game. So unless baseball regains its sanity and gets rid of the DH, it'll never happen again. Yet more to follow..................
Addendum: When I was researching that '72 Wise and Carlton season earlier, I hypothesized that perhaps Carlton's 27/59 might be the modern record for 1 pitcher winning the highest percentage of a team's games. Sure 'nuf................
https://www.reddit.com/r/sportsreference/comments/18jsvkr/stathead_query_request_highest_percentage_of/?solution=9b9a9c82d6f3f96a9b9a9c82d6f3f96a&js_challenge=1&token=7afd7253fec22262ff1c52b1703fe9ecde522b04e9b5ba3c199463cb5317c15b&jsc_orig_r=
""Yes, Carlton's 45.8% of team wins is the modern era (since 1900) record for the AL/NL. [There is a lot of wonkiness in the Negro Leagues and pre-1900 schedules, so that is why I limited to since 1900 and AL/NL only]. 2nd highest is Ed Walsh, who had 40 of 88 (45.5%) of the White Sox wins in 1908."
Further Addendum: I just looked up Carlton's starts in 1972: 41 of them. 30 were CGs. I'll let you track down how many of the 59 wins were when he started.
Regarding my post last week about that weird call in the Red Sox/Blue Jays game. Jomdoy did a good breakdown on it and now I think I slightly understand it. So a runner is a "live runner" unless you throw to the base they shoulda tagged on and that's that actual out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmwFVj3b2y4
So it was a comedy of errors plus a very weird play.

Btw Jomboy has set the standard for lip reading. It's sometimes pretty funny to hear him give voice to what the coaches/umps/players are saying. Not always PG. I guess you wouldn't expect a rough professional baseball coach to saw "golly gee aw shucks".
"It was his 17th start in the big leagues. He hasn't allowed over three runs in a game yet. That's the third-longest streak in the majors since 1893, per ESPN." - MSN.com, speaking of Brewers' RHP Logan Henderson's historic start, and why he was UNTOUCHABLE in Skubal trade talks.
Both those last two factoids are crazy.
Addenda: Brew Crew got 9 runs off position player late. Matches largest margin of victory in a shutout in 126 years.
Luis Lara got his first, but may have to wait for another position player pitching to get another (no HRs, yet he IS valuable)...before this it was Brewers 20-zip over Pirates, from a couple decades ago.
Headline in the "Journal Sentinel":
PILOTS HUMILIATE UPSTART MARINERS
Demand Obeisance for "Getting the Ball Rolling"
(As Jim Bouton chuckles in his grave........)
TN, you know the rules...mercy ending to any lopsided game...seems seventh or later leads of twelve or greater maybe a "mercy" rule (SOLELY at loser's request, OF COURSE) make sense...albeit a tad disrespectful to those who slog through the 17-2 games?
Skenes on the mound today for PIT, with O'Neil Cruz back in CF after long IR stint.
No, don't know "those rules" - for MLB. "It ain't over 'til the Fat Lady sings", and all that. I think it's ok for LL games, or high school, even - or at most *maybe* small college ball. I'm betting 98% of MLBers would be against such a 'rule'. One doesn't get to that level by "giving up". I agree with the sentiment, but no, I don't buy into that one. By that point in a career, a decent number of position players have done some pitching - as you likely know. And if they haven't cultivated 1 or 2 of those.................with the limited number of pitches a lot of guys throw, that's on management to 'solve' that situation. IMO. That's *one of* the beauties of baseball - the uncertainty of the outcome until that Fat Lady finally *does* sing. Impractical, yes, or at least arguable, but part of the 'beauty' of it - just like the occasional 17- or 22-inning game *used to* be.
Futbol and hockey suffer by comparison, with their shoot-outs. Again, IMO. I understand that philosophy, if one can call it that - but it's trying to make a round peg fit into a square hole.
I was rooting for the Mariners, too, but mostly because the Jays had already had a couple of turns. Toronto is a pretty cool place - altho maybe not as much as it once was. Seattle, too, tho, so no advantage there (pun of course intended). The sadness that was Sick's Stadium doomed that one *before* it ("the ball") got rolling.
I agree re: obvious routs, though I do foresee some rule alteration in MLB's future...
But it's clear Gary Sanchez can pitch at times as well as his at times (<average) defense behind the plate...but wow! Vaughn's knuckler was impressive...in slo-mo replay I SAW ZERO BALL ROTATIONS!
I won't bother to 'game out' whatever MLB does from here on out. It almost doesn't matter to me since they've truly ruined a large part of the game for me. (And the players also deserve a good share of the blame, with the two "S's" - "strikes and steroids". There's now *at least* one whole generation, if not 1.5, who don't know what they're missing. Oh well............
TN, you and I (and maybe two (or six) other HISTORICALLY huge-time MLB fans) should play this game:
A draft: choosing 25 for your postseason roster...
...consisting of any baseball player who has ever walked the Earth...
Then, a bracket (if enough are playing) in NINE-games series with advancement determined by KNOWN BASEBALL EXPERTS--or, if impossible--a MATHEMATICAL/WEB/DATA computer-baseball-fantasy-geek determination...
I've had parts of this sort of team in mind for years...
Something extensive, involved, sounds like fun to me...
Arguments here and there, but over imaginary teams, imaginary match-ups...
Like kids play Pokemon or whatever...
(I even have one or two Bill Veeck-approved picks to lighten the competitive mood...
Fantasy baseball TO THE MAX...
Great idea............but my (dwindling) time on this plane of existence would not allow for that frivolity. Not to mention...................that'd be "fiction" - something I rarely ever indulge in, either printed or tv shows or movies. Yes, I'm boring like that........
Unreal matchups like Kershaw pitching to DiMaggio...
DiMaggio hit like .400 career versus lefties...
Maybe my final selection to fill that team would be Jim Abbott.
And Dave Lopes was an utterly awful manager...and over all, the 2002 Brewers were one of the 250 worst teams all-time in MLB history.
56-106 is extra poor.
I didn't realize Abbott had lost more than he's won. 21 games under water with a 'decent' WAR for how long he was in the game. But that '96 season *killed* his stats in that regard. And had no idea he was from Flint. Gosh there's a lot of good athletes from there. Must be something in the water........ππ«£π€’
The a-holes blathering here know less about this season than I do...they don't know Brewers new secret weapons: Harrison and Henderson...they have a WAR of around nine in like 90 GS between them...
..and they're controlled by the team WITH MIZ for next FIVE years...
The turnout in Cincy versus Cards is pathetic...13k if they're lucky.
