One of those infrequent occasions where I heartily recommend pushing the volume control quite a bit upwards.  Not many bands could blend a Strat (which Warren was still playing back then) and a Gibson like the Brothers have always been able to do.  Nice harmonics that matched what Duane and Dickie sounded like together.  [Duane always played a Les Paul - at least for shows, etc.]

July 19 was marked by the passing of a legend. Mosie "Mama" Burks was the powerful voice that often fronted for the Mississippi Mass Choir. Their song, "I'm Not Tired Yet" is legendary in some circles.

She has talent! Her "Ode to Billy Joe" is still floating around TikTok and Instagram. 

I looked at her "tour" dates. She doesn't escape the gravitational pull of her current home in Durham, NC. I could suggest a couple of venues around here that would definitely show her some love. 

From her Wikipedia page, she clearly made an effort to get some traction in the music industry, but to no avail. It's a shame. Hopefully, she is making some $$ from her YouTube postings.

The personnel in The Motels was a bit volatile for a while. He was in during the early days, then out, then back in again.

Well, if you call the band being disbanded the reason he was "out". Hmm. According to Wikipedia his brother Jeff was also in the band. I knew Jeff is a musician but didn't know that he was also in the Motels. Marty has written several books also, mostly music stuff. He plays keyboard, sax, and lord knows what else.

I will confess to thinking that the Motels lasted a couple of years in the 1980s and disappeared. Wikipedia provided me a lot more information: 

-- The original group formed in Berkeley in 1971 and took on The Motels name in 1975 -- neither Jourard was in the band. 

-- The group reformed and renamed with new members in 1978 -- Jeff Jourard was in the band first, and Marty was selected shortly after. 

-- In 1987, Martha Davis dissolved the band and went solo. All band members were out. Davis released 4 albums as a solo performer, and Jourard was not listed as contributing. 

-- In 2004, the band reformed under the name The Motels featuring Martha Davis. 

-- In 2009, they toured with a mix of mostly new musicians, with some of the originals rotating in and out of the band. Jourard was listed as one of those in rotation.

-- In a tour in 2013, Jourard was again listed as a primary member of the band.

-- They continue to tour and make new music. 

It's an interesting story. 

'big laughy face' Marty is a complete original, never ever boring, even when he thinks he is. I'm sure he didn't write that Wikipedia crap. 

Wikipedia has a paid editorial staff, but the content is user-driven. If you feel that The Motels page is "crap", you should provide them with corrections. 

Considering that Marty Jourard has written some books and has a website, it's curious that he doesn't have a Wikipedia page. No such thing as bad publicity.

I have found Wikipedia to be a reliable source of information, especially as a jumping off point for more research. This case in point is no different. I had never heard of the Jourards, and I hadn't given The Motels a thought for over 30 years. I was curious enough to start digging and found the information to be interesting. The Wiki page on The Motels is consistent with Marty Jourard's own summaries from that period (http://www.jourard.com/MyLifeofMusic3.htm) but lacks any details on Jourard and his fascinating musical journey. 

Marty's webpage is a great read, but it is a bit janky. He has taken the time to tell his story in great detail, including rubbing shoulders with giants in the music industry. He may not care about giving himself further exposure, but a lot of people who would eagerly consume his story on Wikipedia are missing out.

It's a rant about germ spreading, but it also includes interesting info about her history ⬇️

"i am literally shocked that i have to say this. But Because i have fans who come to my shows KNOWING they are sick, thereby getting ME sick, i will be wearing a mask from now on whenever i am not onstage. Touching and hugging are now at a minimum because of how careless people are with my body. I can’t cancel Shows and can’t miss work because people don’t care about my health, OR YOURS for that matter. I understand the excitement and people want to see me. But the level of irresponsibility and selfishness displayed by my fans is disheartening. I guess I have to expect this now that my numbers have grown! Up until six months ago I’ve only performed for a handful of people who talk through my whole performance for the last 23 years while I sit underneath a sports TV. Now that folk are traveling, I’m going to have to start protecting my body in ways I didn’t think I would have to. Tough love.  what really sucks are the shows I have to cancel because of the illnesses I receive. It’s not fair to the venue or the other people that wanted to see me, OR ME, because this is my full-time job. Everybody's seen the Woodstock version of "Soul Sacrifice" - one of the greatest musical performances every recorded - plenty of times, generally.  But there are some (not me, because of the unmatchable ambiance of Woodstock) who think this lesser-known concert a year later is a superior rendition.  While it's missing some of the "what-Jerry-gave-me-turned-my-guitar-into-a-snake excitement from Carlos", Rolie is just as good, and Shrieve is perhaps even more monstrous, with additional licks and color added in (as he became a slightly older teenager!):
