That Elo page is not entirely accurate. It says I have 42 wins at 8x0 but it is now 44. Also, the Elo (1718) is much lower than my current mark of around 1780.
kangaroo,
If you are talking about my page, the "Info" tab gives a brief on how those numbers are generated. And that page is updated on a monthly basis so the last month processed is December of 2023.
Hop, if you use the link that redberet provided, and click on the 'Highest' tab, it says (as an example) my highest ever ELO was 1989 which I achieved on Feb 12th 2022. I get the same result if I navigate by first going to your homepage, clicking on 'Hop style ELO monthly'.
However, if I click on 'Ratings live' it says my highest ever rating was 2214, achieved on Feb 22nd, 2022. So there's a discrepancy somewhere, and I can't be sure if the individual stats for variants is based on the data collected to show 2214 or 1989. I've tried pressing F5 but nothing seems to change, so not sure if this is something you can check if possible, please?
Uberman,
"Ratings live" is based on the ratings of this site.
"Hop style Elo" is based on the daily data since 13-Sep-2021.
So don't expect them to be the same. The ratings on this site was started earlier than 13-Sep-2021.
Ah yes of course, sorry, I was getting confused (again).
This one was 200-300 points below other games that were 4 wins in 9 plays:
8x3 15238-6 | Winnable | 6:30 | Won | 50% | 1334 | 5 | 10 |
10x2 2101-12
...I may have started incorrectly, but was flabbergasted when I beat it...its 1346 rating seems low, my experience.
It's as if part of the enjoyment of this game arises from "recovering" from a poor move one's made...meaning: leaving oneself in an unnecessary situation that requires an exceedingly particular sequence for solve.

Well GoAdoptADog!, looks like 12x0 had actually been good for you based on Hop's Elo analysis by player.

Just type your nick-name in the box and hit enter and here is what it shows:

Oh thanks Doc, I’ve been meaning to look into Hop-style. (Btw, I love that name, Hop. Seems like a nice tribute to your freecell skills🤗)
Thnx for showing me Doc. Had no idea I gained elo majority from 10 x 1s. (175.457) ..will be helpful to know for those times I take a nosedive trying other variants in comps.
Am playing 12x0s now, btw :) custom levels 10-12, but sadly elo payout isn’t too big w these even on the higher levels, (I suspect from champs like seb, hop, x and yourself, among others, who have prob played many of these)
There's probably a bias in the points gained towards what a person played when they started at 1500. Not saying the gain from a specific variant isn't meaningful but there might be a distortion.
rb, do others not start at 1500? I can’t even imagine starting at 1, lol.
Oh, srry rb. Do you mean as elo gets higher the points get lower? If you lose to someone (s) who has less elo, you lose more elo, right? You don’t have to answer tho if you don’t want. I should look it up again, I’m just being lazy bc it involves math
"Do you mean as elo gets higher the points get lower?"
that sounds about right
The idea is that you start at 1500 but if your actual skill level is 1800 and you are playing only 10x1 during that time 10x1 would show +300. If you play other variants after that they would net to zero. That's my interpretation, but if that's wrong maybe Hop or El Guapo or another stats person could give some insight.
On the game level you might get a +4 at 1500 instead of a +1 at your true skill which ties back to what you said.
This one is way lower than the others at similar percentage:
3608 | 9 | 6 | 66.67 | 1538.702 |
3609 | 6 | 4 | 66.67 | 1614.056 |
3623 | 6 | 4 | 66.67 | 1489.251 |
3669 | 6 | 4 | 66.67 | 1559.837 |
3670 | 9 | 6 | 66.67 | 1553.573 |
3672 | 15 | 10 | 66.67 | 1271.864 |
3682 | 6 | 4 | 66.67 | 1537.573 |
3754 | 3 | 2 | 66.67 | 1509.573 |
9x2 3672-6 | Winnable | 5:18 | Won | 66.7% | 1272 | 10 | 15 |
It wouldn't make sense if it were 10/10 for someone to randomly choose that game, play 5 times and lose. I guess there is some combo where it could have been in a tournament, but I don't know if they have all the history. It didn't have the feel of a 100% game but I could be wrong.
