Agreed! Max’s work is a short extrapolation along the transect from Haskell to Harrison.
I first encountered Harrison’s work in a really nice illustrated book of “The Shooting of Dan McGrew.”

Looked up Haskell, and he has other NM work, and he has a Santa Fe address, so I'm pretty sure my guess is in the neighborhood. That piece is called "Homeward 2", and was commissioned, but no location information I can find (not surprisingly).
The fact he's a NM artist means it's a virtual certainty that I've seen his works before - some likely the originals - but just don't remember them specifically.

After a bit of searching, I found the title and a short bio on Haskell. If O/X owns the original, I would be mighty impressed/jealous!

I know (northern, esp.) NM VERY well. And I now feel even more strongly that the location depicted is in the vicinity I theorized - the Chimayo/Truchas/"High Road" area.
There are many states whose motto/nickname fits them well (and of course many for which it's quite questionable), and NM is most definitely one of the former. [And I won't put that motto as an acronym, because......well, you know......... Let's just say that IYKYK 😁.]
