Lol @Red ... Then I typed "Tom" and Tom Petty was first. Lol. I was looking for Peter Davison and Tom Baker, Doctor Who numbers five and four retrospectively. Time Lord Baker turned 88 in January.

Dolly removing herself from R&R HOF consideration. To me...............this is a classy and altruistic decision - and really shouldn't be surprising, knowing her ethics. And actually, is probably the correct decision, anyway. I'm no Dolly expert, but I don't think she's even *done* enough R&R to warrant consideration - even with all the crossover considerations that somebody must have done. But much respect to Dolly for saying as much.

Interesting list of nominees: "Parton was nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in February, alongside Eminem, Lionel Richie, Beck, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, DEVO, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, New York Dolls, Rage Against The Machine, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest and Dionne Warwick." I am surprised that Lionel Richie isn't already in. He seems like a no-brainer. But, as with so many awards, my ability to guess recipients is very poor.

A possibly better explanation is the lack of (full) competence of the committee to recognize appropriate selections - in both directions. I'll leave it at that. Except to say that at least the R&R HOF is at least 'somewhat-to-significantly' more relevant than the Grammies.

It was definitely a blunder that had tried to emulate for morale what the Doolittle raid had done. Really, what lessons can be learned from a frontal attack on a fortified port? With no plan. Memories of the Light Brigade still ran deep. I can't say this came as a direct result of that action, but Dieppe was in the back of their minds.

I've always found the subject of war fascinating. I'm well read about most of our wars but wwii holds the most interest for me. But not the roots and causes type of books. Those might as well be pins on a map. An excellent book is The Good War by Studs Terkel and also the works of Cornelius Ryan. It's like hearing stories from your dad or uncles.

One sign shop I worked in had "for sale by owner" signs already made, with a space to paint in the phone number. This was old school.. I'm an old school sign painter. Anyhow, sometimes folks would come in and wait for a painter to paint on the number, then take it with them wet. The owner's wife/secretary would holler "two fizbos to go!" Lol. A fizbo was a for sale by owner sign.

Omg @ June Cleaver! She must have gotten up at 4 am every day, just to do her hair, put on makeup, get all dressed up with a garter belt and everything. Put on jewelry and perfume, so she looks and smells good while cooking the breakfast and seeing the boys off, then for a hard day of dusting and vacuuming in heels!

Browsing through news feed, the headline read, "what you do in the first minutes of a nuclear blast is vital for your survival". I got it covered. All I got to do now is to find a good old vintage school desk, new ones won't do. The most important part is to see if I can still fit under there, so I might have to buy two.

It's as if there are particles left over from comparably early Big Bang times...here: after inflation, but before initial recombination, theoretically between one and three seconds (I believe) post Big Bang...and they are still *still* blasting around the universe completely untouched, until bam! hitting the Earthly detector, now >13 billion years later! Unless it's just a stray bullet from an alien's sidearm (if such things exist...

"Initial recombination" (assuming you're talking the formation of elementary particles, as opposed to the four forces), happened, as best we can cipher, of course, WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY quicker than that. A very small fraction of a second after "the bang". If you’re meaning actual atoms forming, then that's (theoretically) on the order of a few hundred thousand years, altho that's quite a squirrely thing to pin down. This **early** expansion is one of the more mind-blowing things to contemplate in physics - and that's really saying something. (And by "**early**", I'm talking like 10^-30 or even 10^-36 of one second.) A literally incomprehensible event. And no, like elo, I haven't done the math on that myself. 😆 But your point, about that particular particle, and a few others since then, is accurate and extraordinary. That said........with the idea(s) of multiverses and such (somewhat) gaining more credibility................that particle could have been traveling even much, much further, from much, much further back in "time". Altho most still go with the ~13.8 billion years ballpark. And speaking of ballpark..................apparently God has a little Nolan Ryan in Him - or vice versa, I guess. (Which reminds one of Koufax's appellation "left arm of God".)
