That's the most interesting article I've seen on our recent visitor, but crammed full of suppositions and such. Not sure I buy the 10^15 requirement - but then I'm not the chairman of the Harvard Astronomy Dept. this week. Would love to have a sit-down with him and have him lead me thru those several jumps in the 'theory'. Did you look for any of the feedback/rebuttals from other astronomers? My memory is that cold water was splashed on some of his assertions, but don't remember the details.

Great video, ixtapolapoquetl. I do love the sound of a radial engine! Of the primary German fighters from WWII I always preferred the 190 over the 109. My all time favorite airplane from any era just happened to be sitting next to the 190....the P-51 Mustang!

i don't know what it is, cadence. triumphs have it, harleys have it. ducatis and guzzis don't. but those big radials have it to excess. the 51 is exempt.

The VA has a great medical system. The Army not so much. Mind you this was decades ago. I had the misfortune of having an ingrown toenail, so the clinic sent me over to Womack. The doctor took one look and asked if I drank. I told him yeah, so he says when you get out of here and before the shot wears off, you best get a bottle. I went right after and got a pint and darn if he wasn't right. So, I ended up getting a profile (medical note) allowing me to wear a boot on one side and a Tenny shoe on the other. Makes for awkward walking and wouldn't you believe it, but an officer did ask me for that paperwork. Like any sane person would want to walk around like that. Bunch of beauties.

How weird, ix, that not an hour and a half ago, I was looking at an old calculus book, deciding what to do with it. But I began reading it, at the very beginning - stuff like rational vs. irrational numbers, with pi being an example, and they proved that the square root of 2 is irrational, Newton and the others, etc. All that stuff. But the point is, that dovetails with your post. Just seems eerie, as I haven't dug into a calculus book in quite a long time - and much longer since I did so from such a 'theoretical' stance. But then here you come with pi and number theory and such....

One of my favorite books is, "A history of pi" by Petr Beckmann. One point made was that the sophistication of a culture was related to how far they could derive pi. As Ixta said, the Greeks did well. The Romans used 3.

Well, I hope your expectations are, shall we say, "modest" - altho I don't want to overly influence your opinion. There are excellent things therein, but, imo, isn't not really in a league with Graceland. I *do* know at least one person, tho, who thinks it's actually better, just less accessible. You know, Graceland was not only the best album of that year, it was one of the very best of the decade, so................. You know, 99+% of albums since then pale in comparison. Will be interested to hear your opinion, but give it a while before you congeal said opinion, I would say.

Generally speaking (and of course one would primarily need to directly, and statistically, define the very word "generally"...but so, after doing so, could one whose mental faculties are again "generally" considered to be (so to speak) *compos mentis*...could said person *then* be believed, expected, fully trusted in, and as such *known* to be perfectly reliable vis-à-vis suspected untruths? Could we *then* take, as teleological gospel uttered by same said Homo Sapiens Sapiens (albeit colloquial here), that "generally people don't know what the **ck they're talking about"............................could we? I very much suspect so.............

Daily averages.... Between intake and excretion, the bamboo loses about 20% of its mass. Panda poo is mostly undigested bamboo. I believe that mrbuck is weighing the economic options of getting into the very lucrative Panda Poop Tea business. Their ca-ca makes a pleasant, bamboo-smelling tea with reported healing powers. At $69,000 per kg, Panda Poo Tea might be a great investment.
