CHC take lead over TOR 6-0 first inning...foresee big big offensive game, TOR (pennant winner) hit like best sometimes.

But Brown is pitching for CHC (the only good starter they have left).

Three homers by one player, hitting for the cycle by another on the same team. Pretty rare for both to happen in the same game. Phillies last night in their rout.

That's an exceptionally tight grouping there - the top 24 seasons of all time separated by a total of only 52.  And most of those were in the standard 154-game seasons.  Am a bit surprised not to see a Teddy Ballgame, or a Hank or Say Hey.

Addenda before posting:

Mays led MLB his first two years, both at 382, but never had more than that.  Aaron has the most *career* total bases (an astounding 611 more than 2nd-place Pujohls 😯), but never exceeded 400 in any single year, even tho he played a lot of his career with the expanded season.  Williams is easier to understand, as he didn't really get to play a full season often - and he walked so much that likely limited his upside via hits.

Tough guy type, with a great glove, but not much consistent power.  I could have never told you he hit .342 one year, tho.  Doubt he came close to that any other year.  He was the follow-up/replacement to the tragedy that ended the life of Ken Hubbs - who I bet you *have* heard of.

Harvey Haddix pitched twelve perfect innings but sadly got no credit for a perfect game.

Elroy Face started the 1959 season by winning 17 games in a row. (18-1) Coupled with 1958's final five wins, that makes it 22 wins in a row. Still has the highest win percentage in all of baseball at .947. His forkball was  a deadly pitch.

I met him after he retired, working as a carpenter at a mental hospital to earn a pension.

It's conceivable I posted these crazy Suzuki stats before.  Seems like I could have.  Apologies if that's the case............................

In 2001, Suzuki led the league in both BA (.356), and SBs(56) - first player since Jackie Robinson to do that.

Even more amazing.........he's by far the oldest member of the 3000-hit club to get his first MLB hit at age 27.  Closest previously was 23+ (Boggs).

Holds all-time record for hits in a season (262 in 2004) besting George Sisler's 84-year old record of 257.

Had 242 hits in that 2001 rookie season, besting Lloyd Waner's 223 in 1927.

Only ever inside-the-park HR in All-Star game history (2007).

His 3,000th hit was a triple, joining Molitor as the only 2 in that club.

Going into his first AB in his third MLB game, he was hitting a paltry .222 (2 for 9), but got a hit to reach .300.  His career average then never dropped below that mark for the rest of his 2,650 games.

[If he were to come out of retirement (presumably not playing against high school girls in Japan 🤭), he would have to go hitless in 444 straight AB for his career average to drop below .300.]

Won a Gold Glove award each of his first *ten* seasons.  Johnny Bench only other player ever to do that.

He actually hit better against lefties (.329) than righties (.304), highest (known) left-handed hitting BA in doing that (but valid stats on that only go back to 1979).

He played in his first professional game in Japan at age 18.  At that time.....in the U.S..........Nolan Ryan and Carlton Fisk were still playing.

Never struck out more than 3 times in a game.

Led the majors in hits 7 times, tying Cobb and Rose.  Gwynn did it 6 times, and Musial 5 times.

With Tony Oliva (1964), the only rookies since 1901 to win a batting title.

April 15, 2009, he and Griffey (Jr.) played their first game together.  Both homered.  Griffey's was his 400th as a Mariner; Suzuki's was a grand salami.

One of 8 3,000-hit club members to have also pitched in a game, joining Cap Anson, Cobb, Speaker, Musial(😮), Boggs(😮), and Pujols(😳).

Whew!! Enuf of all that!

And speaking of Ryan (mentioned above).....

He stuck out 107 guys WHO WERE BORN AFTER HIS MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT!  😲

AND.........In addition to taking 31 no-nos into the 7th inning..........Ryan also racked up 15 or more strikeouts in a game 23 times.  😮

So......now a vaguely-connected trivia question.  The same player was the victim of both Ryan and Gibson for their 3,000th strikeout.  Who? (Yes, it's pretty hard.) (Hint:  he was a Redneck.)

And whilst you all are mulling over that one.......

Frank Tanana pitched 14 strate complete games in '77.  His pitch count for each one:  "keep your candy asses in the bullpen".
