Not that it matters what I think................but I'm not sure he's worthy.  Certainly not as a Redneck HOFer.  He only managed them 3 years.  And while they won a WS under him, over 3 years he was 'only' 24 games over .500.  And for his whole career..............'only' .517.  And a huge chunk of that was 2001, when the Mariners finished 70(!) games over .500.  That was a great team, with Suzuki, Martinez, and 20-game winner Moyer, who for some reason wants to dominate the discussions here. ;)  Anyway, just my opinion.  Make the case *for* him.

Ooh....   I can see Beltran pretty easily, but Jones is borderline *at best*.  I guess they gave a lot of credit for his defense - which they should (10 Gold Gloves is pretty studly).  I knew Jones had been being talked up for a few years.  But the first two years he was eligible he got less than 10% of the votes.  And this was his *9th* vote. That is telling.

Jones is gonna be only the fourth member of the Hall (not counting pitchers and Durocher (.247 as a player)) with a lifetime BA under .260.  His .254 BA being in there with Killibrew (.256), Rabbit Maranville (.258), and Ray Schaulk at .253. 

You know, there seems to be a growing body of thinking to "creep" guys in.  Sorta like "Well.........he sure doesn't deserve first ballot - or second even - but he was pretty good.  Let's wait and see."  It's like this culture has developed to grade inductees on what 'level' of inductance they get.  (We even have one here who thinks like that.  I won't name him, but he's a Brewers fan. LOL)  That's (mostly) b.s. to me.  They either deserve it or they don't.  [With the moderate caveat that perceptions can legitimately change over time due to the evolution of the game - such as with relief pitchers.  But this is not such a case.]  If a guy takes 10 ballots to get in............that's pretty iffy.  But there's also the bias towards letting *somebody* in each year, or nearly so.  And that's gonna benefit some players from time to time.  Glad I'm not a voter. 

Maddux and Brooksie had *much* more going for them than the Gold Gloves, as we know.  I've always wondered about Richardson.  I think he 'looks' better than he was because of all the great teams around him - but I do have that anti-Yankee bias, admittedly.  And 10 Gold Gloves in the OF is ~~6X more impressive than 5 at 2B, because there's 3X as many outfielders, not even counting subs.  Just sayin', altho that's probably an overstatement.

Switching back to Beltran for a moment: He has four stats that put him in rare company. Only four players have had the combination of 2700 hits, 400 HR, 1500 RBI, and 300 steals -- Mays, Beltran, Bonds, and A-Rod. Looks like only half of that foursome will ever be in the HoF. 

The first group was Ruth Cobb Wagner W. Johnson and C. Mathewson and that should have been the standard kept to.

It's not the Hall of the Very Good or the Hall of Longevity.

That first class, tho, was a "catch up" class, since it didn't happen 'til well after those guys' careers were done.  I wasn't around back then.......but I've always felt (never researched it) that those selections were sorta meant to be a 'bedrock' foundation.  Clearly there were many more who would have been worthy at that point.  I'm not claiming to be able to read the minds of hundreds of baseball writers..........but just think about it:  Cy Young and Gehrig not selected!?!?

Amazed to notice that Cobb got more votes than Ruth on that inaugural ballot.

Mathewson and Three-fingered Brown, at the tail end of their careers, pitched their last game against each other - complete game for both of them.  Brown also got votes on that first ballot - not enough to qualify, but was eventually voted in.  Since the writers could only vote for ten, lots of players split the not-qualifying vote that first year.

Ok, so ESPN has started advertising that they are the new home for all out of market baseball games. 

The ESPN+ platform is one of the worst out there for playback of recorded/paused games. This is in total contrast to the MLB streaming platform which may be the best anywhere. 

I have no faith that ESPN will maintain the truly excellent status quo. 

So Regnifo makes up for loss of Durbin Collins, not by half even...

ESPN has been cranking up the ads for their acquisition of MLB.TV. 

Out of curiosity, I googled whether or not the old MLB.TV app would be used for streaming the games. The good news is that, yes it will. Firenze’s mom will still be able to watch four games at once. 

I also googled whether or not MLB.TV will be available in Canada, as it has been in the past; I was worried because ESPN is not available in Canada. It will remain available, but Blue Jays games will be blacked out nationwide.
