Message:Not to belabor the obvious.........but The Valley of the Sun averages about 10-15% humidity (often lower) when it's that hot. In north FL, it's more like 80+% - often 90% when rain is about. It's kinda a big difference. Not weighing in which is worse; they each have their own "charm".

*** 121F in Lytton, B.C. - which is nearly 50C - and which is not conducive to life as we know it. And is a LOT of standard deviations above the earlier records for ALL of Canada, in which it had never gotten above 45C (in recorded history, of course). So this brings the extremes of temps in BC to ~192F degrees: 121 hi to -71 at Smith River Jan. 31st, 1947. I'm pretty sure that takes the cake among all provinces and NW Territories.

My preference would not be to hope for the demise of anyone (and I know you are not truly wishing ill, Ko'C). Rather, let's reopen the door to scientific discussions that allows emphatic dissent and counterarguments that are devoid of personal invectives. I really don't think our fearless leader quite understands the challenge of constantly being called stupid, uninformed, "on the take", etc in the middle of what was previously a serious discussion. I have no desire to discuss politics here or elsewhere, but the intellectual prowess of those who post here is very, very high. I value their opinions. But two posters with a clear political agenda and the desire to vent frustrations ruined it for the dozens of other participants.

Message:I hope this link works, and is permanent. We are all aware that Hurricane Fiona, now sub-tropical, is battering Nova Scotia, P.E.I., and Labrador. But how often does one see a weather map showing such a storm possibly impacting Baffin Island or southwestern Greenland? I'm sure it's happened, but don't think I've ever seen it. Yes, there's the occasional one that has affected south*eastern* Greenland on its way to Ireland, UK, etc. But this map is just weird. And no sharpies involved.

Message:How humid is it at those temperatures? Over 31C (88F) &. 100% humidity can kill people. Any prolonged exposure to over 50C (122F) with 0 % humidity will kill you. So there's a sliding scale, as the temperature increases you need lower humidity to survive. As the globe warms, sooner or later some parts of the world will be subjected to combinations of temp and humidity that will be deadly.

Message:At 100% humidity, its raining. Temps above 31C are quite common here (Ottawa, Canada) and I’m one who loves the higher temps.. We don’t see a lot of heat related deaths in Canada, not like in the US anyway, and those are almost always low income, elderly, living in less than ideal circumstances. But this is not new, and certainly existed long before we had “climate change” issues.

Message:I recall living in Orlando one summer...the weather was utterly unchanging such that one never really needed to listen to the forecast: sunny, 94 degree high, 73 degree dew point, burst of rain at 600 pm, and by 730 the sun is back out and you couldn't really even tell it had rained...but I did leave in August, missing hurricane season, which of course would give one reason to follow the weather...
